As a long-time follower of the label, I was excited to see that they decided to open a physical store. I visited on the opening day and one time after and I can confidently say it's a cool spot.
If you take the D line it's really T-accesible from the Brookline Hills stop. There's street parking around the corner and I believe the side streets nearby can be parked on as well.
In the store you can find:
Good vibes and cool decor
Records from counter intuitive's label members, former members/friends of the label, and records they do distribution for as well as CDs and casettes
Merch (posters, shirts, etc) for said bands
A free jukebox set up with the label's music (very cool!)
A pinball machine
A topo Chico fridge
Retro games and a variety of systems
A small section of Japanese games in the corner
On the retro games front, they've done a great job at opening with a strong stock. Replay'd in Allston will have more stuff at any given time, but for the size of the store and the fact that it's not solely a game store, I was very impressed with the selection available. The pricing is also very fair and there are many deals to be had. On opening day I got a GBA and DS game and paid about $10 less than I would have on eBay. Jake also gave me a great price on a PS2 with 2 controllers, a memory card, and 2 games and I'll definitely check in from time to time to see what they've got.
All in all, I'm glad to see a place like this open. It's obvious that they have a real passion for what they are doing and put a lot of work and effort into creating a cool spot with a well-curated vibe and feel. Can't think of a better place...
Read more(IGNORE the username, my code name is HENRY if you’re reading this JAKE👆) 5 stars WELL deserved. Honestly just a joy to be in, only record store I’ve been to that is actually exclusively music I LIKE, but even on top of that the store itself just CAN’T BE BEAT, they have free refreshments, a jukebox that has all their music, and a pinball machine based on one of their albums… wow… I was there at the grand opening!! Truly the only really memorable experience you’ll have at a record store, plus the owner is incredibly friendly and awesome sooooo yeah haha. Review might sound exaggerated but it’s genuinely not, I...
Read moreThis place rules! I’m a vintage gaming enthusiast and it’s really difficult to scratch that itch in Boston, but this place does it. Dan and Jake are super nice and my dog even enjoyed hanging out in their while I shopped and talked CRTs with Jake. On top of some solid deals on Gameboy games they have a VHS selection that is truly special. Definitely spend some money there so they stick around. Bonus: they’re right next to Thuro so you can combine your gaming and skating needs...
