Words fall short on describing how cool and amazing this place is. So much history, so much amazing spots and so many unique things to try. The tour is so much better than the what is sounds like in website description.
We got the tour+ l, 2 hours of guided tour. Upon arrival you enter the building with gift shop right in front, a starbucks and ticketing area. The tour begins right on time, with first 15 minutes in a lounge, full of snacks, bakery and drinks. The begins a WB video, after which you meet your tour guide.
Our tour guide Ian was beyond amazing. He was so knowledgeable, so energetic and enthusiastic, made the whole tour extra special.
First we went thru the jungle where among other the first Jurassic Park’s Trex chase scene was shot.
Then we went thru a town area where among others the scene from TBBT was shot, where Howard takes Shelton on scooter ride.
Then we stopped at the props department where we saw thousands of movie props, including Agent smith dummies from Matrix, Casablanca’s original chandeliers, horror movie props and many many more.
After that we drove through the studios at the made up location of Friend’s fountain and orange couch. After taking some pics, we were taken to some of the sets and to Studio 25, which was the home of The big bang theory. We got to see how the sets are created, where lights and cameras are hooked, and how sets are decorated to bring the life into it.
After that, we head to the NYC area, where we saw the broadway set and the spot where Toby Mcguire did the upside down kiss in Spiderman.
Then we head to the mid-west location where we saw many houses that where set for many of famous movies and shows like Young Sheldon, Gilmore girls.
The guided tour is at 2 hour mark at this point and we were dropped of at Studio 48 where Central Perk cafe is, and few other surprises including the original Big Bang Theory’s apartment set. With tour+ we got coupon for free entree, drink and a side. Food was decent. The central perk gift shop has many memorabilia from the show, plus so many different Friend’s swag to purchase.
After the meal, you enter the exhibition of Studio 48 that begins with some tribute to scriptwriting. Then there’s a section tributing the art department, where they have some original costumes of Crazy Rich Asian movie. Then there’s a whole section dedicated to Friends. We already had went to Friends experience in NYC, so we skipped this part. After Friends, comes the big bang theory set, where they have the guy’s apartment, the hall between the guys and Penny’s apartments. They have photo station here and let you take pick on the iconic couch, and Sheldon’s SPOT. Being a hardcore fan of the show we spent a lot of time here.
After the set, you walk to a green screen recording area. Here we had the chance put ourselves in Batman’s batpod chase scene from Dark Knight. There was another green screen for Harry Porter’s broomstick flying. This was real fun to do, as we got experience first hand what it feels like to be an actor in a green screen scene.
From there we move on to the sound recording area, where you get to voice Morpheus’ blue and red pill scene with your own voice, aka ADR. There are few other options for couple of other movie scenes to do the ADR.
The tour of Studio 48 ends here, then you exit and hope on a cart to go back to the building where the tour began. As you walk to this building, you get to see a whole section dedicated to DC movies, including props and seta from batman, bat cave, superman, wonder women, aquaman. There’s one spot dedicated to Game of thrones. Then there’s a huge part full of Harry Porter props and sets. Finally you exit to the gift shop that we originally see at entrance of the building. The gift shop has swags from TBBT, DC, Harry Porter, Friends and many many more shows/movies.
Just amazing and mind boggling!!! After the guided tour, self guided tour takes...
Read moreAfter trying multiple times, edits from myself and Ai my full review is just too long and I cant seem to condense it so here are bullet points I hope make sense. Will try to add full review to trip advisor.
Classics Tour was a disappointment 20 minutes is too long in snack area, felt like killing time, should be 10 minutes tops. movie portion with TCM hosts pointing out what had been filmed there ultimately led to more disappointment. driven around for 90 minutes and not let off shuttles. Other tours groups were off and walking around. When I went back to look and less expensive standard tour and more expensive VIP neither mentioned being allowed off shuttles. We just werent when other groups clearly were property department was rushed. Too many things to see for the speed we were led through -dropped off at Central Perk Cafe and small museum. It was fine but no cohesiveness just random assortment of costumes. Screen illusions part over crowed. What is the point of timed and limited tours when still too crowded. -Worst part of tour waiting for new shuttle to take you friends fountain or final destination. We waited 10 or more minutes for shuttle, no benches for what turned out to be a 30 second ride to fountain. We could have walked there and caught shuttle from there. There should be a security guard and painted lines so you may walk if you choose. last stop small other museum part with lots of bat mobiles and small wizarding world. Sorting hat line too long, others were quicker. Interative potions area where thing lit up but this cauldron that was clearly made to spin we were told we couldnt. Batman area people taking too long trying to get perfect shot. My partner comments how this mans legs were in every photo he tried to take bc that guy kept taking pictures of woman he was with who did not get her perfect shot and just kept standing there till she got it.
As the rest of my original review seems to be intact I will leave it below
By the end, we were more than ready to leave. To top it off, parking was an additional $15.
Overall, the most disappointing part was how little we actually got to experience firsthand. Hearing about all the movies and shows filmed on the lot was exciting, but never being able to get off the shuttle and see most areas up close made the tour feel impersonal. A few months ago, we took the Paramount Studio Tour, and we enjoyed it so much more. There, we could get off the cart, walk through parts of the lot, and actually feel like we were part of the environment.
If you’re deciding between this tour and another studio tour in Los Angeles, I would strongly recommend choosing...
Read moreSomewhat disappointing in our opinion, mainly because the back lot tour is very recent TV biased. There is such a rich history of classic & iconic movie heritage here but on the back lot tour there is very little mention of any of it. Its all about Friends, Big Bang Theory, Gilmore Girls & recent shows, All American & Abbott Elementary. What would have been great was if they took you in a sound stage where a number of iconic films were shot with props, sets or costumes to really make you feel like you're near a movie set & movie heritage. Stop at a soundstage where some classics were shot & talk through a story that happened there perhaps. They do take you in a sound stage but it's all about a new TV show they are filming & not movie related. They drive past the costume department & point it out, its not a visit, more a side note. You drive through the lot but can't really see anything other than the outside of the sound stages. & the buildings you see are mainly from TV, buildings used in Gilmore Girls, Friends etc. When you leave the vehicle too, it's difficult to hear the guide as they don't have a microphone or anything to enhance their voice. Our guide was quite quiet, compared to some of the other more vocal, we could hear on other tours. When we toured the Gilmore Girls house, you can see out the back on to the square but we werent allowed to stand on the porch & look. The tours clash at stops/on passing too, where you can here 2 different guides talking at the same time. The indoor exhibits are also few & far between considering what a vast history of film making they have there. There is a really nice sound part of the tour where they show you an exert from Gravity with the different sound layers & some really good interactive parts where you can voice over parts from 3 movies. But other than the small DC & Harry Potter sections there is not much else unless you love Friends. Central Perk & the Fountain etc from opening credits feature heavily. There's a brief nod to classic cinema & animation in the room off Central perk, which shows a handful of costumes/props from A Star Is Born, Mars Attacks, My Fair Lady & a board with some animation stills. A huge wasted opportunity in my opinion. This could be great, a real celebration of WB movies, & Animation too, but instead these play second fiddle to TV comedy. Virtually nothing about the classic WB movies & not great for people who really love cinema. If you love Friends & Big Bang it's worth going. If you love Harry Potter go to the Studio Tour in London (it's so much better) & Universal...
