I went to the Commissary to pick up client lunch, so I DIDN'T ACTUALLY TASTE THE FOOD. This was my first time at the commissary and I've always wondered what it was like. They were very busy but the staff was also quite fast. I gave it 2 stars because the Pick Up section was not pleasant for me. It's a bit messy and confusing. So much so that another person took my order instead of her own. I overheard her say "I guess I grabbed the wrong one" and then she said her name to the staff member, and I heard the staff member say "Oh, yeah you did, this one was yours, it says 'her name' ". She was already eating the food, that wasn't hers, while waiting for her coffee, not caring/or realizing that she's eating what someone else is waiting for. I thought I heard my name at one point, but it was a little loud and since I didn't see a receipt with my name on it I figured I was hearing things. I'm pretty patient, especially when it comes to restaurants since I understand how it can be. But, I didn't know right then and there that she took my order. The staff member didn't say anything to anyone waiting about the food order just sitting there with that persons name on it, but knew it wasn't hers. So I just waited to hear my name. I got tired of waiting while everyone behind me was hearing their names being called, so I asked if that one sitting there is mine and did that person take my order. The staff member said "Yes but they are exactly the same meal". Um...Okay...I know he was busy but he could have said something. She definitely could have said something knowing that she had the wrong one. I was right there next to her. As she left I finally saw my name on the receipt she was holding. Perhaps it was a bit more confusing since I had never been there before, but there were a few people who had that look of, "is that mine?", on their faces, and hesitated to pick up their order right away. I also hesitated to touch the receipts on the open food boxes because it didn't seem sanitary in case it wasn't mine. (I know some people who would be upset about that). I think the Pick Up section might keep me from wanting to try this place for a little bit longer. It sort of turned me off from the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreToday I experienced truly appalling customer service and bad attitude form the staff here.. I've never felt that uncomfortable and disrespected by a barista and cash machine guy before. The attitude and condescension was on another level from the bleached-haired young gentleman, who clearly has a vendetta against the world for one reason or another. I was genuinely disappointed and embarrassed for Commissary, who's other locations are great and have always had good customer service. To top it off the long dark-haired gentleman actually running the espresso machine was in a world of his own (where apparently no body else time matters).. the coffee was fine and crafted to a reasonable standard but the amount of time he wastes and unnecessary extra effort he puts in to peacock his whole performance (all while uncomfortably and disrespectfully eye-balling any women who walks thru the door as if he were still living in 2005 and #MeToo never happened) is shameful... I don't understand how these musician douchebags, who clearly think they are above it all, and tend to talk non-stop about their upcoming tours and all the great work they do as "session players" (which I guess doesn't pay very well given that they are manning coffee machines for sh!t-fifty-five an hour on a Sunday morning š¤·āāļø) are even able to maintain these jobs.. How do employers not see right through their arrogance and how detrimental it is to pleasing their customer base.. If I owned a cafe like this I would be disgusted to see this kind of behavior exhibited behind my back. This attitude can't be tolerated when there are literally hundreds of other great places to get your coffee made with a smile (in well under...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Coffee Commissary on our interview date.
Many wonderful things have made their home in illustrious land of Burbank. The Walt Disney Studios, iHeartRadio, and Warner Brothers Studios (which holds the most famous coffeeshop of all ā Central Perk from Friends) are just a few. Well, get your pens and papers out because weāre adding Coffee Commissary to the list! Located directly across from Burbank Studios and iHeartRadio, this modernized retro styled shop is the perfect spot for music and film execs, actors and musicians, and neighborhood locals to pop in for a scrumptious bite and a delicious caffeinated beverage.
Standard coffee offerings paired with recipes tailored to the hip Angelinoās eating habits (avocado, Sriracha, and kale galore) give you plenty of relatively healthy options to choose from. I opted for the brisket hash (consisting of eggs, potatoes, brisket, avocado, and smothered in chest goodness) and an iced vanilla latte that was the perfect amount of sweet and invigorating without getting a sugar rush. Take your pick at enjoying your time outside on their cozy patio area with woodsy seating arrangements, or inside with their school desk style bar stools, wire chairs and wooden benches against a colorful chevron designed floor. Coffee Commissary seems to be the place to be for all types of visitors, so what are you waiting for?...
