What a great (thyme) I had at this adorable restaurant. The interior was lovely, the food was excellent, and the price was reasonable!
Once you enter the restaurant, you will first order at the cashier and then seat yourself down. There were plenty of tables available when I came in around 1 pm on a Saturday.
Aesthetics: 5/5 I really wanted to check this place out because of its cute interior. They offer a mix of both marble and rustic tables, so your food pictures will look aesthetically pleasing no matter where you sit! It's extremely well-lit inside and the entire atmosphere feels very chic and modern.
Avocado & Burrata Toast: 4/5 It's all I (avo) wanted! It's one slice of sourdough bread with avocado, burrata cheese, tomatoes, and basil on top. I do admit that I was hesitant at first as to whether or not I should get this because $15 seemed a bit questionable for a somewhat simple dish. However, don't underestimate it! It's one of the popular items on the menu, and for good reason. The mixture of ingredients make an excellent combination - very savory from the cheese, yet balanced by the tomatoes. The toast also comes with a balsamic vinaigrette salad on the side, so it can be a filling portion for one!
Short Rib Hash: 4/5 The short rib is accompanied by red onions, bacon, roasted potatoes, and 2 sunny side up eggs with siracha sauce on top. Another wonderful combination of ingredients! The meat was very tender (a definite plus for me because I hate when the meat is too chewy and/or dry) and the potatoes were delicious. This dish was similarly priced at $14-15, yet I think it would be more filling than the avocado toast. If you're feeling more hungry, I would go with this option. My friend & I shared both dishes and we were both completely satisfied afterwards.
Parking: 3/5 It seems like finding street parking will be a bit of a hassle, especially if you come at a busy time. Luckily, I was able to find a spot directly in front of the restaurant when I came around 1 pm. There is a valet option, but I think most people don't want to hand over $6.25 just for parking.
Highly anticipating my next visit to Olive & Thyme so I can try more...
Read moreI know that I enjoyed my time and meal there, but didn't realize how good until I just selected "Excellent" for all the categories.
It's clean, simple and has character. That goes for all three: food, decor and service. And that's what I'm looking for in a little eatery like this.
It's not a coffee house trying to serve munchies, it's not a bakery trying to serve a few food items. It's not trying to wow you with an unnecessarily abundant selection of pastries like someone with something to prove. It's got good, creative and well executed dishes. I had the simple bacon and eggs. They were exactly that, but done well. My scrambled eggs were seasoned perfectly, were abundant and an unexpected delight on my clever board/plate. Once again, even the settings and cups are like going to a friend's home, but a friend that cared to put a little thought into things.
Every baked good I had there was excellent. The scones had the right balance of moist/chewy/crumbly/crispy. The salted caramel cookie had enough caramel and salt to justify their place, but not so much that you felt someone was trying to show off.
The whole place is like someone with talent, but really sharing it just because they love the craft, not because they necessarily want...
Read moreThis was the first time here. I had a look at the menu and decided to give it a shot.
The parking was easy enough on a Saturday morning. I found a spot on the next block up and within a few short steps I was at the door. The first impression of this place even just by looking at the menu was reminiscent of another popular well known cafe on West 3rd street in Beverly Hills. So much so that now that I live in NoHo this will take the other places spot on my ‘good places to eat’ list.
You order and the counter and then take a number and find a seat. They have a good selection of pastries and cookies as well as a really robust menu.
I had the strawberry croissant, the eggs Florentine and a latte.
After sitting down, the service was fairly prompt and things trickled in just enough to not make me think it’s taking too long.
The food itself was great. The poached eggs were perfect. They had just enough tension to feel them ‘split’ when I cut them.
The croissant was really sweet and had some cream cheese and strawberry jam filling. The lattes were good too.
The only downside was the music being a little too loud to hold a conversation.
I would...
