Let me start off saying I am a newbie potter, I am not about to drop $5,000+ dollars furnishing a clay studio in the beginning of my ceramics journey. I want to “play and perfect” before I commit to such big purchases. Plus, who has a ton of space to sling clay chunks around and host a giant kiln?
I took various classes around Asheville and Hendersonville and just wanted to work in a space where I could go on a wheel, work on a slab and glaze without any interruptions or lessons. I honestly didn’t think a place like that could exist. So I started googling “kilns to rent” and came across Cold Mountain Collective”. The website listed everything I could want in a studio and more. Wheels, kilns, tools, a slab roller, extruder, glazes and more !! Pay by the half or full day to use the studio and for the kiln it’s by the size or shelf. Yes ! Finally a space where there’s no missed classes, sick days, snow days etc. Come and play when you can and choose the days and times that work for you. Dream DO come true !
Is this a dream ? No my friends, it is not.
I have found my little oasis for pottery and it is as magical as the twinkling lights...
Read moreAbsolutely one of the best experiences of my creative life. I’m a VERY beginner potter and just wanted a little time and space to practice some of the skills I’m learning from class. Being able to book an entire four hours at a studio was a dream. For many of us artists, having our own studio is a significant barrier, for various reasons, and that is why community arts organizations and businesses are so vitally important. While “affordability” is, of course, relative, I found the rent for my space at Cold Mountain to be very reasonable, and because of that, it has provided me with an idea of what a larger investment in a studio would require. Beyond any of that is the owner of the space. Hannah is such a gift to the community. Her kindness, warmth, and support for local artists is truly uplifting. She dedicated a lot of time to help me get settled in the space, making me feel as if it were my own personal creative studio. Additionally, she was more than willing to assist me with my poor potting skills! I cannot wait to return, and I am beyond honored to be a part of this wonderful artist community! Thank you, Hannah, and everyone at...
Read moreCold Mountain Art Collective is such a phenomenal gallery and studio! I recently had the pleasure of taking a 2 hour ceramics class with Hannah and will soon be booking even more independent studio time. In addition to having everything you need from an operational standpoint (tools, materials, etc), the space also has an amazing ambiance that really helps to facilitate artistic expression, and Hannah is certainly the source of that. She is a patient and thorough teacher with a keen ability to give clear and easy-to-follow instruction. She was so encouraging when things went awry, as they often do during your first throwing lesson, and her uplifting attitude and gentle correction allowed me to laugh off the mishaps and enjoy the experience regardless of the setbacks! Both the gallery and studio palpably exude the warmth and devotion they have been curated through, which makes it such a refreshing place to spend a few hours ruminating and creating. Your time spent here, will be...
