As someone who enjoys visiting museums across the US that focus on the cultures and countries from which immigrants came to America, I can confidently say the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library in Cedar Rapids is an absolute gem. Impressive Scale and Infrastructure The size of this facility is truly astounding. This isn't just a small cultural center—it's a comprehensive 50,000 square-foot institution that rivals major museums in much larger cities. The infrastructure is remarkable.

Outstanding Exhibits and Experiences The exhibits were superb throughout. Each display thoughtfully tells the story of Czech and Slovak immigration and culture, making it accessible whether you have personal connections to this heritage or are simply curious about American immigration history. A particular highlight was watching the clock tower's on-the-hour display of Czech workmanship—it's a rewarding experience that showcases the artistic traditions and craftsmanship that immigrants brought with them to America. A Source of Pride Having grown up in Northwest Iowa and spent time in Omaha, I've seen how immigrant communities maintain connections to their heritage. The Czechs, both those from the US and from the Czech Republic itself, must be incredibly proud of this museum. It's clear that significant care, resources, and love have gone into creating this institution. Bottom Line This is absolutely a must-visit destination in Iowa. Whether you're interested in immigration history, Czech and Slovak culture, or simply appreciate well-curated museums, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library delivers an exceptional experience that honors both the immigrant journey and the rich cultural traditions that continue to enrich American...

This beautiful building is a delight to return to frequently. A changing schedule of exhibits will appeal to many varied interests. What an excellent, interesting way for kids to experience a number of hands-on activities while soaking up some history and cultural display. The quality and care given to each exhibit topic is exemplary. Through the years, I have experienced beautiful art and music, a display of czech clothing, beautiful garnet jewelry, and czech motorcycles. The exhibit called the "Voices of Freedom" is so engaging, the message so important, it is stunning in its creative scope and amount of information provided. Begin your experience with a movie about the fascinating history of the museum itself as it highlights from its impressive opening and the incredible almost unbelievable occurrence of the need to physically MOVE this entire building out of a flood plain. Successfully completed. There are scheduled events, programs, kids' activities, and a really enticing, well-done gift shop that continues to carry on the quality from the exhibits to items you can take home to enjoy. Friendly helpful staff and volunteers are easily available to answer questions and provide guidance...

I visited the National Check and Slovak Museum and Library for the first time Saturday, February 3, 2018 to check out the Art of Accessories exhibit.

I really enjoyed the exhibit of folk art and the detail of the handwork that was exhibited. Also the permanent exhibit of the velvet revolution was very informational and I appreciated the interactive immersion of the exhibits.

I am thinking of joining as an Individual, renewable annually for only $35.00 a year. Gets you in free and I would be supporting the museum.

I had fun, would like to go back soon and encourage you to check it out. Admission is $10.00. Not bad for the few hours would could spend soaking up the history.

Also I watched 4 Bald Eagles fishing on the river from the...

My wife and I had some time to burn between landing in Cedar Rapids and catching a shuttle to Dubuque, and we found this museum on the map and couldn't resist stopping in to learn some familial history. We only had about 20 minutes, so I asked the staff for the highlights. We were able to rush through the Faces of Freedom exhibit in the Jiruska gallery and the Sleger Family cabin. The exhibits were informing, entertaining, and plentiful. The staff was so kind and understanding of our situation, and very knowledgeable. While our time there was way too short for my liking, it's only prompted me to want to learn more. If I ever find myself back in Cedar Rapids I'd make a point to schedule a longer visit.

I've known about this museum for what seems like forever, but had never visited until recently. So on a recent trip to Iowa, I decided I would spend one half of a day checking out things in Cedar Rapids and this was on my agenda. It's not a particularly huge museum, but definitely worth the admission fee to check out the exhibits on display, whether you have and Czech or Slovak heritage or not. If you are passing through Cedar Rapids, it's a good place to stop in as well as checking out some of the places in the surrounding neighborhood!
