This upscale, retro., boutique serves the best ice cream in the Cedar Rapids / Marion area and is the only soda fountain I know of in East Central Iowa. The shop offers high-quality, real ice cream (not that processed, artificial soft serve or frozen yogurt). The craft dairy treats include locally-sourced natural ingredients and a wide variety of flavors and toppings. The rich combinations are delicious and worth the premium price. The locally-owned, independent business has a history of reinvesting in and supporting the community. The setting is perfect for a concept like this. Plus, the service is outstanding. Amazing place to visit, especially if you have a sweet tooth. Their ice cream is SO good!! I couldn't decide on one flavor, so I got the flight. Doesn't look like a lot, but it is-- I was so sad I couldn't finish it all! Birthday cake tastes like actual cake batter, chocolate isn't overly sweet, vanilla is rich and creamy, and peaches and cream (my favorite out of the four) had a hint of floral(?) undertone that nicely complemented the peach. Cedar Rapids, you have yourselves a GEM of a sweets shop! My mom and I ventured to czech town yesterday and finally got to try Sweet Mercantile CR. Just LOOK at these beautiful ice cream flights we got! 4 flavors and a plate of goodies for TEN BUCKS! This is a steal! All the girls working were so friendly and welcoming. They had these beauties whipped up and brought out to us in no time. My suggestion to anyone going to try these (which you all really should!)is to go hungry!
