The Olympic South Side Theater — Attraction in Cedar Rapids

Searching for a wedding venue in a pandemic was not a fun or easy task. But when we decided we wanted The Olympic to host our wedding we never regretted our decision. Anna was incredibly responsive and helpful in getting us everything we needed. We were particularly impressed in how The Olympic was innovative in wedding hosting during a pandemic. And when plans had to change 2 weeks ahead of our wedding due to state mandates, Anna was right there to give us advice and guidance on how to proceed. While many people canceled or postponed their plans with the mandates, we chose to keep our date even though the guest list had to be reduced significantly. Having our wedding at The Olympic was perfect. With the small guest list and large space everyone was able to safely social distance. Masks and hand sanitiser were in abundance. And when it was all over we wouldn’t have had it any other way. We were able to live-stream the wedding on YouTube so those who couldn’t attend could still be a part of our special day. And everyone watching commented at how beautiful the venue was. We couldn’t recommend The Olympic South Side Theater more. 10/10! Would definitely get married...

The staff at the Olympic Theater are first class! We cannot say enough wonderful things about Anna, the manager. We booked The Olympic while still under renovation, because we could see Anna's vision for the space! When it was finally ready for public use, we couldn't wait to say "I do" in a stunning art-deco theater! She allowed us to visit a number of times, answered all our emails in a timely manner, hosted a couple evenings of cocktail tastings, and even had her bartender create a homemade syrup for our signature drink!

We attended the Harry Potter themed dinner with the magical "talents" of Mykala Oz. The food was good but the entertainment felt like I was at a birthday party for a 6 year old. Hint: if you have to say "that's it" at the end of your trick, it's not a good trick. She did this on several occasions. I don't really fault the Olympic, aside from not really researching the talent level of the performer before charging $75/ person. However, the AC in the building had quit the day before and it was a 90+ degree day. Add the fact that there are no blinds on their windows in the venue, so while it creates great light in the room, it really bakes the room in that natural light.
