Today we went to the Immersive Van Gogh Experience at Camp North End in Charlotte, NC. If I were reviewing only that, I would add another star. Although it was a different experience than I expected, it was quite amazing. If you purchase a Premium or VIP ticket, you have a little more freedom to enter and leave and roam around. There is more to see than just the show itself and several picture taking areas as well as a decent sized gift shop and a bar/cafe available inside. The actual show runs for about 35 minutes in a loop, so if you come in sometime in the middle, I would suggest you stay and start from the beginning if you are able...there will be credits that roll for a short time at the end and the show will begin again very shortly after. Experiencing the show from beginning to end made a difference in how you see the show, rather than walking in after it started and not knowing how much was left or if that was it. Knowing it was appx 35 minutes and starting at the beginning made it more enjoyable (of course, in my opinion). It was quite mezmerizing how one piece morphed into another and the next again and again. Brillliant, really. Afterwards, we hoped to eat at one of the Camp North End restaurants but everything (food stands) pretty much shuts down at 8pm...aside from a couple places...and of those 2 places, 1 had a 1½ hr wait for a table (restaurant) and the other was for drinks, which looked quite nice inside but we were looking to complete our evening with dinner. With that said, those 2 places were quite small in size, and without a great amount of space for tables I can see how the reservations could fill up very quickly. If you plan to go to the Van Gogh Immersive Experience and would like to eat, I suggest making reservations ahead...in addition, tickets for the Experience book fairly quickly especially on weekends. I do think (and hope) once Camp North End grows and adds more and more places to walk around eat or explore that it will be quite an exciting place to go. There is art everywhere...on buildings, signs, sidewalks and even on the outsides of the shops and restaurants. It really is a fabulous idea with some great history around it!! It is definitely worth...
Read moreWe love this place! Many imperfections but it's the new best thing in the city! I'm so glad it's growing into something amazing for the communities in the area. I hope the place continues to grow with more opportunities for small business owners, artists, people seeking event spaces and people looking for a place to enjoy their leisurely time making memories, celebrating, relaxing, chilling, and having a good time. I hope more food joints will open up and more places for artists to have work and play spaces. I love whomever is in charge of the horticultural and structural design of the areas in the "camp". They're all doing an amazing job with all the plants and all the new seating arrangements and play areas. We really love the stages for the performers. Hopefully they will add some comfortable back support chairs outside by the main state. It was a bit painful trying to find a comfortable place to sit, being there for a couple hours. They have really cool events on the weekends, with live bands and the various shops being opened. Make sure to check out their social media posts and their main website for event information. The Jazz and Salsa music bands that we saw, deserved bigger audiences on Friday. People got spooked by the rain, but people, it was just sprinkling! Bring an umbrella just in case and don't miss the shows if you really want to go out and enjoy them with a...
Read moreWe have been hearing about Camp North End so we took the drive last Saturday. This place gives us the Eastern Market (DETROIT) vibes. If you’re from Michigan or have visited you know how beloved that market is to the Detroit people. Camp North End is still under construction. We noticed a few restaurants & we were hoping to see more but no matter- this development is so darn awesome. The art, the repurposed material- all worth a trip to check out. The history alone: was this a Ford plant once? A missile plant? That’s what my husband found in a search. While checking it out. Getting hungry? Grab some lunch from the open establishments. My husband researched and found that Camp North End have a farmer’s market from April to October. That sounds nice. We’ll need to check that out. When we visited on Saturday it was cold & icy so we didn’t get to explore as much as we wanted. We’ll definitely be back & we’ll share with our neighbors in DAVIDSON as we learn more. More! I love when we stop by and see more being added to Camp North End. Bought another fabulous eraser from Good Postage & a treat from Wentworth & Fenn on this last visit. We noticed SKATE is new. Always something to do or see at Camp...
