Newly opened in Camp North End, Gravity Sourdough Pizza Co. brings a fresh, thoughtful approach to pizza making. The owner, Alex Osterhoudt, known for running Aurora Star Lit Cinema (the team behind the outdoor movie events at Camp North End), turned his backyard pizza hobby into a full-fledged business. When word got out about his pizza-making skills, he was invited to set up shop, and it’s clear this was the right move.
Alex’s passion shines through in every detail. Gravity Pizza’s 12-inch sourdough pies are crafted using a 200-year-old sourdough starter from King Arthur in England, giving the crust a rich, complex flavor. The dough is a mix of King Arthur Flour and 00 flour, creating a light, chewy texture that holds up beautifully. Each pizza is baked in an Italian-imported oven that reaches 825°F, cooking the pie to perfection in just about 10 minutes.
The menu offers both signature pizzas with well-balanced toppings and the option to build your own. They also offer vegan cheese, and beer, wine, and a kale salad are on the way. If you like trying different pizza flavors, keep an eye out for their soon-to-launch pizza flight, featuring three 8-inch pizzas with different toppings.
I ordered the “Tommy Boy,” which typically comes with cup pepperoni, but I swapped it for sausage. The pizza was topped with ricotta, mozzarella, red sauce, hot honey, caramelized red onion, fresh basil, and grated Parmesan. What really impressed me was the attention to detail. Every slice had the perfect ratio of toppings, with no sparse or overloaded spots. The sauce-to-cheese ratio was spot on, creating a balanced bite every time.
I prefer a lighter bake on my crust, and without any special requests, my pizza arrived exactly how I like it, with a beautiful, even undercarriage. The slices held up well, with just a slight, acceptable flop. For those who prefer a crispier crust, you can easily request that. One bonus I loved is you can get a free dipping sauce of your choice...
Read moreWe finally made it yesterday to Gravity Sourdough Pizza Co. First, I love their space with the mural, the vintage televisions & old shows playing, and awesome music playing.
Mikayla took our order & was helpful & sweet. We were also lucky enough to meet Alex, one of the owners. I am impressed with how he actually loves to make unique pizzas that taste incredible. We tried the Tommy boy (most popular with pepperoni), Pretty Fly and the Brusselin. After tasting all three, our favorite was the pretty fly. The Brusselin was the most unique because of the nutty flavor to it. We honestly have had nothing like that ever on our pizza tasting journey.
Cocktails, beer & wine are also coming soon for those that would love a little something with their pizza.
Highlight: My husband and I were so impressed with Alex that we are about to share his pizza business on our Town of Davidson Facebook page. People want to know where to go, what’s new & we are happy to share because he’s a great guy & his place is an adventure.
PS I think we need to try a sandwich next time & maybe even that garlic, crunchy cheese bread. That sound so good ;-)
There is also something called Friday Pizza Flight in which they do pizzas plates, and you pick three for $30 👍
Bon...
Read moreThis is an honest review. Overall it’s good. Is it worth the price that’s up to you. We orders essentially 3 pies. The shroom city, Tommy boy, and the cheese garlic bread. The garlic bread is basically sauce less pie. But it was amazing. Real garlic and salt. The pie lacked salt, in my opinion. I’m not saying it didn’t have any. I just tasted bland crust and mushrooms. There could be more folks that disagree. I’m not saying don’t eat there. I am saying try it for yourself.
The staff were friendly and polite as well as helpful. The store front is very small so order ahead on the busy days.
I have to give atmosphere a one because of how small the store front is and there was only one menu available and cell service and camp north end guest WiFi doesn’t work, so you can’t look up the menu.
We waited about 1 hour for the pizza. So that is a bummer. I recommend ordering ahead of time.
All in I may go back. But you should try it...
