Sleepy Poet Antique Mall — Attraction in Charlotte

This place is very nice and I understand why, because the prices are absolutely sickening and a ripoff. Everything is priced as if it were brand new. They even have a section of furniture where every piece was priced at 1,420 dollars. For what is supposedly an ANTIQUE store. My parents used to be antiquers and would restore many old pieces, and when I sent them the pics below of thier prices they told me to turn around and leave because they were price gouging. That no real antique store has prices like that for the pieces they were on. This is a retail designer store with the mask of antique, dont be fooled. Only reason I give this place 2 stars is because the atmosphere was inviting and place was clean. I just honestly can't believe people are buying the stuff from here because allot of it you can get at retail stores for less than half the price.

For instance the pics below show an Infinity Mirror at the Sleepy Poet place and then some from Amazon. You can buy the SAME EXACT infinity mirror at Spencer's in any mall for like 20 to 50 bucks, or on Amazon for the same price which i have also posted pics of. But the price they had it for is stupid. There's no excuse good enough that this place could ever give me for setting thier prices this high. The Imfinity Mirror is but one example of MANY things that are WAAAAY overpriced.

In terms of selection, Sleepy Poet has one of the most diverse sets of vendors and items out there in the antique business here in Charlotte. There is something for everyone here. My wife and I are big into 1960s pieces and Mid-century modern and while Sleepy Poet doesn't focus on this era, we always find at least a few gems every time we go. In addition to that, there are plenty of traditional, Asian, Shaker, and rustic pieces to keep everyone happy.

The clothing and record sections are amazing with lots of great choices as well.

My only complaint, and this is an indirect reflection of Sleepy Poet itself: many of the vendors' pricing is quite outrageously pricey. I am not sure if this is just because antiquing is now becoming a fad, if the rent from Sleepy Poet is just expensive, or if this is normal for Charlotte. All I know is there are pieces in here that other antique stores may sell for $200-$300 that get priced at $600-$1000 here. While I am always willing to pay more for better quality and condition, the items here are just the same as at other places. Apologies for the rant about this, but this is the only reason why I am subtracting one star.

Sleepy Poet Antique Mall is hands-down one of the coolest hidden gems in Charlotte. If you love antiques, collectibles, or just browsing through unique treasures, this place is a must-visit. The space is HUGE—rows and rows of booths packed with everything from vintage furniture, records, books, jewelry, art, and quirky one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t find anywhere else.

The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, almost like stepping back in time with a modern twist. Every visit feels like a little adventure—you never know what you’ll discover, but you always leave with something special. The vendors clearly take pride in their collections, and the prices are fair for the quality you’re getting.

What makes it stand out even more is how well-organized it is for such a big antique mall. The staff is friendly, helpful, and always around if you need assistance. You can easily spend hours wandering and still not see it all.
