On the night of December 26, three friends and I came to do the TOP SECRET escape room. One of our friends is a frequent visitor of this location and has been waiting to try out this room. As we enter the escape, everything seems to be perfect. Unfortunately, that facade faded quickly. As escape room enthusiasts, we felt it was odd for the game to start with massive clue explained to us by the attendant and no introductory video. Once the attendant (seasonal hire) left, we started exploring the room. Within the first 3 minutes we accidentally opened a puzzle that was meant for much later in the game. This was the catalyst of us noticing many broken features and pieces that were not reset properly. For example, there was a radio in the room and a clue that told us tune it to a certain frequency. However, that was allegedly broken and instead we were given a paper with the code we needed on it. Things were then going smoothly, until random clues started popping up on the screen. We specifically stated that we would not like clues unless asked, as this would compromise our experience. Throughout the duration of our stay, we noticed many more broken pieces, things that didn’t work, clues that were received through paper/text rather than using the room, and A LOT of dust, dirt, and debris. Towards the end, we unlocked what we thought was the final puzzle to beat the room. To our surprise, nothing happened. Because the timer kept going and no one had indicated that we won, we pressed on searching for any missed parts for an additional 5 minutes. At this point, we started waving our hands and asking for a clue as we were very lost on what to do next. For the next 15 minutes we were screaming “CLUE CLUE CLUE” and nothing was being given to us. We resorted to turning the radio to full volume and then we heard a knock on the door. Still nothing. All of a sudden, clues started popping up on the screen for puzzles we completed much earlier in the game. It seemed that the attendant didn’t know what point we were at and was shuffling through every clue at that point. Eventually, the attendant entered the room and told us “no one was in the control room”. She explained that she was setting up another room for 15 minutes and thought “we would be fine” Not only did this ruin our experience of winning, but if we did happen to need a clue in those 15 minutes, we would have been stranded. We asked her about the puzzle from the beginning of the game that was accidentally opened and she tried to blame it on us saying that we were “messing with it”. It was clear that this was not reset properly and she was scrambling for explanations. As we left, she did in fact ask for a 5 star review, but given our experience, this is the review...
Read moreLiterally the worst experience I've had at an escape room. Me and a friend did one of the rooms and we are both seasoned escape room solvers. One of the puzzles we thought we solved was actually broken or 'stuck' and no input could be placed, there was also a change in lighting once we 'solved' it so we moved on, not knowing what that did for me. We spent 15 minutes bumbling around with no idea what to do from there, and the person helping us in the end, said that it was our fault that we overlooked the fact it wasn't solved, even though it was obviously broken. The thing we did to trigger them no longer worked. Also a lot of the puzzles had no real lead to them? Like oh you need to do this puzzle, obviously, but there is a thing you have to do first and that thing has no prompt, no reason or Rhyme as to why you would ever do that. Like, I don't know. If I saw my players flying through puzzles, do a puzzle (wrong but with a signal like it was done right) then try to trigger it again and it doesn't work, and say "oh I guess I solved it" (especially if it is linear and you have to solve puzzles in order) I would stop and tell them "hey, you didn't solve this, the machine malfunctioned" I wouldn't just let them bust around doing nothing. EDIT Why would there be a 3-5 minute buffer in a game you only have 60 minutes to solve? Also there absolutely was not a 3-5 minute buffer between tries because after we got the clue that we asked for 15 minutes later we messed up the input on accident like 3 times in rapid succession without it buffering before putting it in successfully. Even if there was a buffer, (that had no signal, by the way) what a cheap, mood dampening tactic to force your players to lose time. Also if it was an unintentional buffer like the lady said, we either should have been notified or given back those buffer minutes, since that isn't our fault. Either way, buffering intentional or not, didn't just cost the 3-5 minutes. It cost us atleast 20 minutes of our time, 1/3 of our game and $25 DOLLARS of our experience because of an issue with poor puzzle design (your story) or faulty mechanical parts. I have never ever had an issue like this even in the most home grown looking escape rooms. There are plenty of other reviews that state the same thing I am, so I feel like maybe this is something yall should...
Read moreEdit since they want to lie: The game 'didn't malfunction' but was on a 3-5 minute refresh timer that they..... didn't tell us about? Not only does that not make sense since we only inputted the code twice the first time before it stopped working (hence why we thought we solved it) but the 2nd time, we had to try inputting it over 6 times because (suprise) it was malfunctioning by candles going out that we didn't blow on. If there was a 3-5 minute timer, why didn't it get triggered the 2nd time for too many inputs? It's because they're lying to save face. Why weren't we made aware of this timer? Instead, we were left to wander the room for over 15 minutes thinking we had solved it. You can read countless other reviews where they've mentioned glitches and malfunctions. It feels like they did this on purpose to make players have to come back and play for a 2nd time because they didn't complete the games the first time.
Og review: We've been doing escape rooms for over 5 years, and this is the first time we've ever not completed a room. One of the puzzles malfunctioned and had us wandering around the room for the next 20 minutes thinking we had solved it. The room master was very dismissive when we complained and made it out to be our fault when they definitely could have notified us that the puzzle was not completed. We were talking in the room about how we couldn't figure out why we completed the puzzle but nothing happened (Because the pieces were malfunctioning and no longer responded to our input.). This was by far the worst experience I've ever had, and I will not be back even though there were other rooms I was...
