This mall may be holding on by a string known as target, jcp,and a few stores and the food court but if your playing Pokemon go and love taking pictures with your Pokemon and looking for a nice quiet mall setting or so without many or any people getting in the way of your pictures then this place is great for such. I do wish it would have more stores like it used to back then, only reason why it doesn't have as many stores as it used to is because the owners of the mall raised the rent price for the mall store spaces and it was too much for most of the ones already there and is too much that it puts off any possible future ones that could have taken their places. In the end they were probably better off keeping the price at its original or not as high as they put it as then the mall would have more stores in it, more people in it, in turn more money revenue in the long run. It would be a shame if it keeps going like this and then ends up like the sears in another part of Virginia that used to be a mall as well. They went same route, slowly but surely every store left except for sears and then the interior of the mall section became spaces for offices or storage for the sole store left which is sears. Most even now wouldn't even know if they walked into a mall there since it has long since lost it's original name except for the last store... Don't let Chesapeake mall end up the same way.. it has a lot to give if given the chance like it used to back when it had more shops...

A few decorations and the food court only had a few places that refuse to give in and go to the light. The music echoed around and I thought perhaps it was closed and they forgot to lock the doors. The few shops that were still there were open and had people working but they could have been ghost of the lost souls trapped in retail hell. I found one security guard asleep on a bench, no joke, snoring. Before I realized it was mall security, I assumed it was a homeless man just trying to get out of the rain and cold. Amazon really did a number on malls all over. They used to be the place to hang out after school and meet up with your friends. Now, it's where you go to set up a defense against the zombie hordes. Bath and body works, Target and Yummy Yummy remain unaffected. Immune to the plague we know as Amazon. But if that is all they have left, then this mall is on life support and the family has yet to pull the cord. Great place to escape the rain and cold if you are homeless! So if you are, check...

Now, a large portion of the mall is closed off, and only a handful of stores remain openāprobably fewer than I can count on my fingers, and I wouldnāt even need to use my toes. The atmosphere feels quiet and a bit hollow, a stark contrast to the lively energy it once had.
The main reason I come to the mall now is to visit the jewelry store. While Iām fine with buying most things online, jewelry is one of those purchases I prefer to see and feel in person before making a decision. For that purpose, the trip is worth itābut beyond that, thereās not much else drawing me in.
Itās sad to see what was once a vibrant shopping destination reduced to this, but unless thereās a significant revitalization, Chesapeake Square remains a shadow of its former self.
Rating: āāāāā (2/5) Functional for specific needs like in-person jewelry shopping, but overall, a deeply...
