The Terris Theatre — Attraction in Chester

Intimate theater experiences often come with a trade-off, in that smaller venues are ill-equipped to handle very popular shows. The venue itself was clean and well appointed. The theater has stadium style seating after the 4th row, so there are no bad seats. There's a full bar and small merch area. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Inadequate parking means "overflow parking" is on a nearby road (on a 30° pitch. And if you park facing the wrong direction you get ticketed by the police). There are inadequate bathroom facilities (2 stalls for women, 1 for men), and the location is challenging to find. That being said, the staff handles their challenges brilliantly. As an extension theater of the legendary Goodspeed Opera House, this quaint theater lives up to the level of quality and charm! I had the pleasure of seeing Darling Grenadine at this location recently and I was impressed on all accounts. Attentive staff greet you as you enter the theater lobby, and a small bar serves pre-show and intermission drinks (get a cocktail served in a souvenir cup so you can bring your drink in the theater and keep a collectible memory of the performance). Small but quaint little theater. The staff were nice, helpful and friendly. My only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is due to the seats being so close together. I understand it's a smaller building but I had very little room to move around even a little nor could I get comfortable. It also became quite warm in there due to being seated at capacity. However, that isn't any specific person's fault and I feel bad rating it one less star because of it but these factors ultimately made the experience into what it was. We saw A Connecticut Christmas Carol, which was a great musical and was done by talented professionals. Definitely worth the visit for any play...
