Where do I start.... about 10 years ago when I reluctantly moved up to CT from New Orleans my mother realized Chester would make me feel more at home than most towns on the shoreline. She loved the Herbery so had been to the Wheatmarket. I was so sad, missing my home town, and hating the cold weather. Their mulligatawny soup, no joke, warmed my body and my entire view of the transition. I sat in the car and though “this isn’t so bad”. Love the Wheatmarket. Great sandwiches freshly made with quality ingredients, a variety of homemade soups that changes every day & always at least one hot entree available even when going for a later lunch. They have specialty food items that you can browse while they get your food ready. Limited seating available but it's well set up so you don't feel like you are sitting on top of one another.... We especially like to order our sandwiches to go in the summer and go have a little picnic in one of the many picturesque...

I have been going to the Wheatmarket for over 20 years... it never fails to delight me. Foods and flavors I don't tend to enjoy are completley delicious and different than any other I've ever had.
