I just love exploring all that the city of Chicago has to offer, especially on its lakefront paths. As someone who frequently uses the nickname 'The Windy City', I was not surprised at all by the blustery conditions on the Lakefront Trail running through downtown Grant Park. However, on a nice sunny day, this trail provides the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Stretching over 18 miles along beautiful Lake Michigan, this trail is a popular spot for runners, bikers, skaters, and folks just out for a stroll taking in the scenic city views. Nearby landmarks like Buckingham Fountain, the Art Institute of Chicago, and downtown skyscrapers provide a stunning backdrop during your walk or ride. In Grant Park, you'll find yourself right in the heart of downtown but also enjoying some fresh air in the lush greenery that earns Chicago its nickname 'City in a Garden'.
No matter the season, you're sure to work up an appetite exploring this trail. After your outing, head over to one of Chicago's famous pizza spots or restaurants along Michigan Avenue to refuel. Be sure to bundle up if visiting in winter - with winds coming in off the big lake, it can certainly live up to our reputation as Chiberia! Overall, the Lakefront Trail is a must for residents and visitors alike to experience everything this great city...
Read moreI’ve lived across the street from the lake for 16 years now. The Lakefront Trail has always been my “escape” from the city. It’s surprisingly quiet. And every time I walk or run or bike down there I see and experience something different. You can go north or south for miles, going through and past museums, marinas, beaches, parks, and bird sanctuaries. I wish there were strict enforcement of bike vs pedestrian lanes. I HATE when bikers, usually tourists, are on the lakefront pedestrian trail. Please note that the bike trail is up near lake shore drive. And it is just as beautiful. So you don’t need to ride down by the lake swerving in and out of people walking/jogging with their friends and families and dogs. The path is absolutely best at sunrise, before the crowds when the lake is quiet and calm and the city is not...
Read moreI feel fortunate to live so close to Chicago's Lakefront Trail. I cycle along it nearly everyday for leisure / exercise. The pavement is smooth and well maintained. The path twists and turns gracefully through various beautiful landscapes, including trimmed grass and wild prairie pastures with plenty of peaceful views of Lake Michigan. Early morning rides are my favorite, as I like to take photos of Chicago's...
