Nepal House: A Gem of Indian Cuisine in South Loop, Chicago
Nepal House is one of the best Indian restaurants in the South Loop area of downtown Chicago. As an Indian, having such a delightful restaurant just around the corner feels like a blessing! I recently visited on a weekend for a food pickup, and the experience was fantastic.
Food: I ordered the Vegetable Biryani, which was a flavorful Hyderabad-style dish with perfectly cooked rice and aromatic spices. The Chili Paneer Gravy lived up to its name—spicy, tangy, and absolutely delicious. The Naan was slightly thicker than I expected, but it was still soft and tasty, and I was able to reheat it for my next meal. What I loved most was that the food was minimally oily yet packed with bold, authentic flavors. It’s rare to find Indian food that balances spice and flavor so well!
Service: The service was exceptional. When I arrived to pick up my order, I was greeted with a complimentary Masala Chai, which they usually serve to dine-in customers. It was a warm and thoughtful gesture, and the chai was absolutely delicious. My food was ready in just 20-25 minutes, which is incredibly quick for such high-quality dishes.
Ambience: The restaurant has a pleasant and comfortable vibe. The decor features subtle Indian aesthetics, and the mild Indian music playing in the background adds to the cozy atmosphere. There’s also a bar, making it a great spot for both casual meals and relaxed evenings.
Parking and Accessibility: Street parking is available nearby, which is convenient for those driving. For those using public transportation, Nepal House is incredibly accessible:
Bus Stops:
Michigan & 13th Street (Stop ID: 1812): Right outside the restaurant. Served by Bus #1 (Bronzeville/Union Station) and #3 (King Drive).
Michigan & Roosevelt (Stop ID: 752): A short walk south of the restaurant. Served by Bus #1, #3, #4 (Cottage Grove), and #12 (Roosevelt).
Train Stations:
Roosevelt Station: A 10-minute walk away. Served by CTA Red, Green, and Orange Lines, providing easy access to downtown Chicago, Midway Airport, and other key areas.
Harrison Station: A 15-minute walk north. Served by the CTA Red Line.
Overall: Nepal House is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Indian food in the South Loop. The flavorful dishes, excellent service, and convenient location make it a standout choice. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout, this place is sure to leave you satisfied. I’ll definitely be...
Read moreI love Indian food. Back home, I get it multiple times a month. If this restaurant was in my city, I would never need to go anywhere else and I would have no money. I got way too much food for one person to eat because there was just so much I wanted to try and absolutely everything was spectacular. The samosas were rich, crispy and absolutely stuffed with lamb. The green sauce paired so well to balance it out! I have never had momos and it was recommended by my Nepalese friends. Again, so crunchy and full of flavor. The sauce that came with it had a hint of spice. Their korma was smooth and rich and the chicken was juicy and thick. The garlic naan was genuinely the best I have had. It is exactly what I want when I say garlic. They were busy with orders but never forgot about me and were checking in on me. I will say that the spice was a little lacking for me at medium but I am from Louisiana so the spice scale might be different. I will definitely be returning even if it takes me a few years to fly back up. Maybe I can get their recipes next time... lol. Thank you guys for an...
