I have so many great memories from Szot park.. most of them go back as far back as being a little girl with my family.. it goes back generations for us because even my mom loved going there when she was a young girl and loved taking my children when they were young... When my son was little.. I would bundle him up and take him and our dog sledding on the hill by the fountain and all the kids had so much fun there! I think everyone from Chicopee always admired the color changing fountain! Now around the fountain area you can purchase a brick that they will inscribe for you for a donation. It makes the whole area look so inviting ect.. We actually found a brick with my grandfather's name in memory of him donated by the family.. so it's a special place to visit. Of course the big tank that the kids love! They absolutely love that tank and always want to see it.. Chicopee has the fireworks at Szot park with all kinds of food venders, music ect. They have, tennis, basket ball hoops, football field, park, parking everywhere, sprinklers for kids, swimming pool if you have a...
Read moreIn my opinion, Szot Park is Chicopee's diamond in the ruff. I'm extremely glad it's located in a secluded part of town. I moved to Chicopee a while ago. I used to go to Forest Park in the late 1970s. We would occasionally skip school and pack about 9 people in my Automatic Transmission VW Bug with a crank you turned to open its Moon Roof! We would enter Forest Park and turn off the road, and drive all through the trails. The dirt trails used to go everywhere throughout the entire park. They started about 300 yards from the Sumner Ave entrance on the right. They went all through the woods fron entrance road to way in.back of "Hippy Hill". I did my best to draw a RED LINE on the below map where they used to be. I strongly think Forest Part is one of few remaining tranquil and relaxing places to hang out around that part of upper Springfield. I encourage everyone to Enjoy While It...
Read moreI've been here many times. Szot park is a unique place. There's a big entrance from the big Front Street in Chicopee. There's a giant tank there on display. Then you come up to a state of the art football field which Chicopee High School plays on though their school is a ways away from the park. Then next to that place there is a big field used from time to time by the town but mostly for sport practices. I go there almost daily to watch my boy practice football. On nice days I like to drive to the side of the park, park my car, roll the windows down and put my hat onto my face and catch a few Zzzzs while waiting for his practice to be over. If you are one of the people walking their dogs there, or if you are riding your bike nearby, please don't disturb me. I'm a teacher. It's been a long day. I want to enjoy...
