This was really disappointing. They need to add admission pricing, and tour length on their website. They also need to respond to their "contact us", on their website. If you have issues with mold and mildew, skip all of this, you will be bothered. There is not much airflow at all.
We were informed the guided tour is 1 1/2 hours, which we didn't have time for. We told the one gentleman this, and then the older gentleman kept trying to give us a guided tour, hated ignoring him, but the young man who we talked to, should have passed this information on.
Had we known this ahead of time, we might have planned ahead. We did a quick self-guided tour, already having been to the Adena Mansion, a lot was repeat information.
To get inside, you have to ring the doorbell. Quite odd. We were not told of the other buildings that are on their website, I did inquire about the cabin, and they offered to open it up.
It is wheelchair and stroller accessible. They have an elevator to the second floor, ADA compliant bathroom stalls. The doorbell is much higher than a wheelchair user could...
Read moreWhen history is more than a hobby and museums are usually your favorite memories of trips, this was a let down. This is the very first museum i have been to where they don't even give a single glimpse of history without a guided tour. I would have paid double just to be able to see their main gallery and be able to discuss and appreciate the history with my partner. I agree chillicothe has an emence amount of history that can't be condensed in a single hour but we were basically told people are too stupid to appreciate history without being told what they are looking at. Please modernize and make an audio tour atleast for your main museum. People should be able to walk around that freely. Admission isn't the issue. People would still pay to get in, it's the guided tour that is keeping people from attending. I suggest having someone at each location the museum operates then having audio boxes with buttons that play the history. You would get more "tours" in and ultimately more money for preserving...
Read moreWell stocked museum area with valuable items of interest, others of good educational value. A true museum look, pride in ownership abounds. Good location, liked seeing that more is being added, and it appears there are volunteers caring for some of the temporary displays. The building seemed in good condition, visually appealing, clean and interesting. Our guide was pleasant and knowledgeable, having the skill of how to talk to people. Affordable entry. The entryway is a bit confusing, the souvenir area is not pleasantly set up. Bathrooms are clean and comfortable. Front landscaping pleasing. Parking was easy for us that day, not sure abt other times. Mobility could be an issue for some as there are different floors to maneuver, but there IS an elevator. It does seem to require a guide for best experience and understanding of how to get around. That front entryway...
