This place has so so soooo much potential for the city, and as someone who grew up here, I LOVE the park deep down, but I have to admit it has its faults.
First off, the roads, we do not need streetside parking for the duck pond. It is ugly and just dangerous for the children. There is an entire gravel lot down from the bank that would be great for central parking and making the rest walkable or bikable even! It would be amazing and such a nice addition.
And second off, the restrooms. There isn't much surveillance on them, and they are NOTORIOUS for hookup spots. So if you or your young ones need to go... please don't go in the buildings by yourself, or at least be cautious, lol.
There is, of course, the brick building that is kinda just... condemned. and it only exists to keep the unneeded and kinda just dangerous road infrastructure. Just let it go already Chillicothe.
With the paper plant closing this year, I really think the park needs a serious revitalization and complete removal of the streets inside it besides the waterpark and water plant access road.
Overall, the shade is plentiful, and it's a mostly nice place to just watch the world go by. There's just those few things that keep it from being...
Read moreBeatiful park with plenty of wildlife. The addition of the water fountains really add to the atmosphere.
There's also a great 18 hole disc golf course, the Feast of the Flowering Moon festival, Fourth of July fireworks, and a yearly Halloween festival that's one of the most festive things in Chillicothe.
In addition to the pond, the park has an art gallery located in the pump house, a public pool, basketball and tennis courts, access to the YMCA, and connects to the flood wall, which runs along the Scioto River and has some of the best views in the city.
The parking lot on Water Street offers convenient access to the park itself and numerous downtown shops and restaurants.
Really the only downside to be found is that the sidewalks around the pond can get a bit messy from the ducks and geese. But there are more than enough reasons to love this...
Read moreHonestly had no idea this place was as big as it is, I'm a new transplant to Chillicothe. Took my girls here to enjoy the playground area and where the pool is. Driving around town to see things I seen the YMCA and seen there was a road down back there after having breakfast at a nearby local restaurant. And lo behold it was more of Yoctangee Park! So much wildlife! It was a bit busier than I imagine it normally would be dude to a biking trip/event starting there but it was still peaceful and beautiful. Took a bit of a walk around and captured some good pictures. I'm looking forward to coming back and walk more to see things. Girls are excited to come back as well. Already added some pictures of my recent visit. Looking forward to adding more as I...
