This is a Cincinnati landmark and is a must-see even if you only go and have a little something to eat, watch the news reel theater and eat a Graeters ice cream cone and don't go to the museums and Exhibits.
Parking is a $6 flat fee for 24 hours and is free for the first 30 minutes. There is a museum gift shop and spotless bathrooms with lockers available for $1 for 24-Hour Locker rental. The Graeter's Ice Cream Parlor sells large waffle cones for $6.35. To the right of the entrance is the kiosk to pay parking and a PNC ATM. To the left of the entrance is the newsreel theater which is free and very much worth seeing.
The price for an all-day admission to all of the exhibits and the Omnimax and all three of the Museum's is $30.50, but it doesn't cost anything beyond parking to come and enjoy the fountain outside and the beautiful rotunda and have something to eat and an ice cream cone. The breakdown for multiple museum tickets is shown below. There are options for eating and tables for sitting down and eating and a menu is shown below. There are also vending machines next to the Holocaust exhibit.
As you enter walk straight through the Rotunda to the back hall and the Amtrak waiting area is on the right. There is no ticket window so tickets must be...
Read moreThis was my first Amtrak experience so I’d like to share my feedback:
First I have no complaints about the travel itself. I made it safely to my destination with no hassle or concern for my safety.
My only complaint would be the seating process: Upon boarding the train in Cincinnati we were instructed that the conductor would assign seats. As I met the conductor to convey my destination I was instructed to sit in seat 22. While looking for my seat (at 3am - my apologies to the sleeping passengers) my seat was already occupied. Forcing me to sit at the very front of the train where there was no window and no tray table.
I specifically brought my laptop along to be able to watch movies and without a place to sit it I was stuck scrolling on my phone for 16 hours.
To make matters worse I was told by the assistant conductor that we would be rotated to proper seats as they became available - but that conductor and assistant conductor were themselves rotated off the train just an few stops later.
I’m sincerely disappointed that I paid for a seat that had a tray table listed as an feature of the trip. I am also disappointed that for the entirety of the trip I was unable to see any of the scenery which sold me on taking Amtrak in the...
Read moreIf you like dinosaurs, model trains and buildings or interested in depot history and architecture, it's a great place. People are nice and food is adequate. If you are a true railfan, you may be disappointed. They continue to advertise that Tower A Control Tower is open to visitors when it's been closed for years. I've visited three times over the last 3 years to see the Control Tower and the big yard behind the station from the Tower vantage point, just to be wasting my time and money. Further, you cannot see the yard from anywhere in the terminial and no one seems to think that is a problem. To make it even worse, you would be able to see it from the Amtrak Station on the ground floor if they'd let you, but the stairway down to it is closed off and only opened minutes before a rare train comes through. Even then you have to have an Amtrak ticket to get down there. To be fair, I haven't complained to management about correcting the situation. No one in charge to take my complaint was there last...
