Tech Express(repair & accessories) — Attraction in City of Ithaca

This review is for the location in the Shops at Ithaca Mall location.

Extremely disappointed with the service as well as the price. I brought two laptops in to get fixed. One just needed a factory reset, the other has a broken USB outlet. The man told me I wouldn't be charged for the factory reset, and that he would call me about the USB outlet.

Days later, I get a call telling me once again that I wouldn't be charged for the factory reset, and they won't fix the USB outlet, but they have an external piece that I can buy to use instead. This would cost me $54. They said they would call again when it was ready for pick-up. They suggested it will be another day or two.

A week later, after not getting a call, I go to the shop around 2PM and there's a note on the door that says "Out to lunch. Call this number for assistance." After hours of waiting, it became clear that note is always on the door, and they weren't "out to lunch".

The next day around 10AM I walk back in, and the same note is on the door. I call the number and was greeted by a man who returned my laptops. I explained I was supposed to receive a piece to fix my USB as well as my chargers and the box for my laptop. He returned my property and then handed me a piece I already have at home, so I rejected their part, trying to save myself $54. Instead, this man had the audacity to charge me over $100 for a factory reset because that is the ONLY thing they did as I requested. 100% waste of my time and money.

Would not recommend for water damaged apple products. I came in about a month ago with a water damaged macbook pro (which is understandably a difficult fix) and tried this location first because of the "free diagnostics". They charged me a "water damage cleaning fee" of the amount that a diagnostic fee would be across the street, told me the laptop couldn't be fixed, and never gave me any diagnosis of what was wrong. I brought it across the street since that store is an apple-certified repair shop and they were able to diagnose the problem and fix the laptop so I could pull the data off. They said the water damage was pretty significant and didn't see anything that would indicate a "water damage cleaning" was done. Overall I wish I would've gone to someone that could have repaired the laptop from the beginning, instead of just paying someone to take it apart and agree it was badly...

I went in to get information and the guy was really nice and also gave me pricing. Sad to say the pricing was kind of high for a cracked screen on a tablet.
