So my family and I are visiting the fingerlakes region and looking for some wineries to visit for a day. I happen across this location and it piques my intrest. So despite all of us not being dry wine drinkers we still decide to pop in and check it out, and boy am I glad we did. First of all the owners were the most knowledgable wine makers I have ever encountered, which is saying something as I hail from a big wine region myself. They not only educated us about their five wines, but educated us about the difference between an american wine and a true french wine, which is the tradition they follow being a fifth generation wine maker. They also have a small museum in their winery which we learned a lot from too. So now to the wines themselves, they have five they make. The first two I tasted were dry which as I mentioned in the beginning I don't prefer, but they were palatable to me and could drink if I were offered a glass. They also have two ports they make which I liked both of them. They also have a sparkling wine which I wasnt able to sample because of its delicate shelf life once opened. If you're in the Ithaca NY area I strongly recommend visiting this place. They also have the cutest little mascot named Tucker...
Read moreThis place is one of Ithaca’s gems. If you are in the area to do wine tastings as an intimate affair this is a MUST stop. The owner of the winery is a descendant of the owner of a French winery. As you taste he will tell you the stories of his time growing up and working in the winery in France. You can get a tour of the facilities and view pictures and artifacts from his great-grandfather’s winery. It’s a small facility, but stunning. For us, THIS was the wine tasting experience we were looking for. Ports of NY winery is personal and lovely, and listening to the rich stories from someone who is passionate about what they do made the experience all the more special. Their ports are deliciously unexpected, and you will want to take home multiple bottles of their table wines. We are so glad we made this our final winery. We saved the absolute...
Read moreWe came to visit Ports of NY Winery after visiting several other vineyards and wineries along the Cayuga trail. I’m glad we saved this for last because it was my favorite experience of our weeklong trip. All of that is due to Frédéric, the winemaker, giving us an excellent tasting experience. It wasn’t just about the wine itself, but about the grapes and the history behind them. My wife and I were the only ones in the shop when we arrived and it was perfect. Frédéric has a wonderful collection of vintage winemaking equipment from France setup for viewing and learning about too. All in all, I highly recommend this experience. You won’t find a more genuine, kind, and experienced wine expert. Oh, and the wine is FANTASTIC. I dare you to walk out...
