Incredibly rude service. The worst I have EVER encountered. Owner verbally attacked us for not wanting to purchase an item that she priced on the spot. We continued to shop and discuss what would have been a fair deal with one another, and other establishments we liked to explore as well. It was the casual sort of conversation you have with friends as you shop. The place has many rooms, so we weren't aware the owner was hanging on our every word. She angrily approached us in another area of the store and quite literally yelled at us like children because she "didn't like our attitude". I attempted to apologize for the misunderstanding and she mocked me, repeating my words in a sing song voice and told me to stop grinning at her! I was smiling because the whole encounter was so... strange and I didn't know what else to do. At that point we attempted to leave, then she hassled me about my purse (a very expensive normal sized handbag) and accused me of trying to steal. I offered to show her the contents and she started screaming at us to get out immediately. I am disheartened because I have shopped here before when the owner must not have been present and enjoyed myself. I do not wish to support her after being treated so poorly. If she is so very sensitive about her pricing, perhaps antiques is not the best business for her to be in. I feel awful after the encounter as well as confused. I am not a shoplifter, do not carry myself as such, and would have gladly checked my bag or returned it to the car if she had mentioned it sooner. It was not a large purse by any standards and contained only my wallet, keys, and chapstick. I usually don't leave negative reviews, but I couldn't help but try to do something to right such a weird and unfortunate visit that left me pondering how the place is even still...
Read moreIt always makes my day to be able to peek in at "Behind The Iron Gates". It is the very best place to meander through so many rooms upstairs and down that are quite literally packed full of all kinds of treasures from days gone by (at reasonable prices.) On my recent visit, I could not resist purchasing some old glass Christmas ornaments. Then, to my surprise, didn't my sister show up with several more... absolutely beautiful ornaments for my birthday. Needless to say, a tree I had planned to decorate with glitter and bling, got a complete new (old) makeover. Then I needed a tree topper. Once again I reached out to Selma. She and her employees located a couple very old toppers in pristine condition-still in its original box. Perfect!!! ALL of these ornaments were in this beautiful Victorian Home, "Behind The Iron Gates" just waiting and wanting for another to cherish them. You will find that "something special, one-of-a-kind" piece there, too. Although I do not get a chance to visit much, it is the top of my list for Antiques, vintage, collectibles, and especially warm welcomes, kind hearts, and exceptional service. A huge Thank You to Selma and her staff; they are amazing!!! (See pictures...
Read moreCAUTION! Yesterday was a good experience there but today was just awful. Went late yesterday so they were closing up (i am looking for stuff for halloween) and I did not look through everything. Went back today to hopefully buy some stuff. While contemplating I got verbally attacked by the woman with curly white hair. While upstairs and no where nears the door to leave. She stated I was 'acting' suspicious the whole time. I explained I was sorry and only shopping and contemplating. She did NOT back off and got more intense towards me. I left in tears being screamed at by the woman over and over again while she rushed me out to then got in my face and yelled at me when I was almost out the door. I will not recommend this place to anyone. No one should be treated this badly. and I am sorry for whoever had to deal with this type of insulting, rude behavior. :( wish I could...
