Its Okay. The equipment is jammed into the place so its hard to navigate around the gym. Trying to get from the back cardio areas over to the machines is its own obstacle course. They only have one pec dec machine that is consistently being used, wished they added a second one. The parking is terrible, if you go on peak times you are in for a good walk as you need to park in the very back lot. The free weights area is on the small side of things, so its always crowded with people trying to get their dumbbell workouts in. I also noticed that it makes for somewhat of an uncomfortable situation for the women who want to get dumbbell workouts in. Don't get me wrong, I never seen anyone being harassed, but standing around all these guys in close quarters made a few women, I saw, feeling a bit intimidated. Bathrooms are generally clean, as far as the mens room goes. One dryer sits on top of one of the soap dispensers which is not an ideal area so people wait in line for the other dryer that is not being obstructed. The TVs they use on the cardio deck are bad, hard to find a channel quickly so you got to do some surfing to find what you want to watch. Also the screens are horrible. When certain graphics on the tv appear the screen gets jumpy with a strobe like effect which happens often. I would say at least 50% of the gym is cardio equipment 30% are machines and about 20% are free weights. I wish they would have built two stories and had cardio equipment upstairs and machines and free weights downstairs. Otherwise they should scale back on the cardio machines, between the huge back area of cardio equipment the bikes and the cardio theater I never see them all being used at once. They could most certainly do away with a few of the machines and open the layout a bit more or get a bigger free weight area. On the plus side, noone ever fights or trys to upsell you, which makes it a comfortable place to walk in get your workout in and leave without being hassled. It is a cheap fee per month, but that also allows a lot of high schoolers to come in to workout and they tend to se their smartphones and socialize more then workout. When you try to hop on the machine they run over and say "i'm using that bro" Ummm nooo you were snapchatting photos of your 3in pythons in the mirror for 10min. I learned not to go until late at night or early morning to avoid most problems, which is not ideal at all. I have been looking around for a larger facility with better parking and a better ratio of cardio to machine to free weights. No...
Read moreBUYER BEWARE. If you are thinking of getting a membership with Retro Fitness, make sure you review the contract carefully and ask about their 60 day cancellation policy. Have them show you in the contract where it is spelled out, otherwise it's highly unlikely they will point it out. It's not something they go out of their way to make known, at least in my case. But according to internet reviews, they have withheld this information from a number of people who like me were very surprised when they tried to cancel their membership. Also ask about their automatic renewal policy. Make sure you completely understand and agree with these policies before signing. While it's an okay gym, their financial policies are abysmal and very anti-consumer. They make it very, very difficult and expensive to cancel. Also google Retro Fitness and read the reviews, especially those that mention their cancellation policy.
To be truthful, I didn't use the gym that much. When I did it was mostly cardio machines. Their ellipticals didn't agree with me. Tried to cancel membership last night after almost four years. Got the surprise rude awakening that you have to give them 60 days notice!!!! So, even though I have told them I no longer want what they provide (after almost four years paying them), they insist that somewhere in the contract I made four years ago, in some fine print that no one ever pointed out, that I have to pay them for two more months after I tell them I want to cancel. So during those 60 days they are at a criminal level of exchange. Criminals take things like money without giving anything in exchange. That's essentially what Retro Fitness does with their 60 days notice cancellation policy. If you are aware of this and agree, then it totally fine. But if you're not aware because they go out of their way not to point it out, that's another story. This review is an attempt to shed some light on the matter.
If you've already been burnt by these draconian financial policies, you can write directly to Eric Casaburi, Founder/CEO of RetroFitness to tell him what you think. Google his name to find the...
Read moreGreat place! Lots of equipment and space for any kind of workout. Wish they had some monkey bars and a rope to climb, but still, they're better than most gyms out there, especially for the price.
There are classes which used to be free, but I think you need the premium membership (about $10 more per month) to take them. I'm not 100% sure, since I don't take the classes myself, but I think this is what I saw on one of the boards. Call and confirm before you make a decision based on what I've said.
It can get a bit crowded during busy times (mid morning / nights) but even then it's not terrible. Plenty of parking, especially now that the adjacent property has been remodeled. If you come during a work day, make sure to avoid parking in the marked L'Oréal spots, which might...
