Bistro 1051 — Restaurant in Clark

Made a reservation in advance for my family for New Year's Eve dinner. Called the day of to confirm the time and see if they had anything later. The woman who answered the phone, and the same one who I made the reservation with days ago, said I had cancelled my reservation through Open Table. I was extremely shocked and explained to her that was a complete lie as I never made my reservation through Open Table. She acknowledged remembering having taken the initial reservation and so put me on hold. Came back a few seconds later and now said I didn't confirm my reservation off the text message I was supposed to receive and therefore it was cancelled. I explained to her I never received a text message, and its obvious by her first mentioning Open Table and now the text that they have some issues on their end. Nonetheless, my reservation was gone and my families NYE plans out the window. The woman wasn't sympathetic of the situation, didn't seem to care and made no attempts to make things right. We've been here multiple times over the years and have even hosted events here. But after this, I will never step foot in this place again nor give them a penny of my money ever.

Follow-up to Owners response: To be clear, this reservation WAS NOT made through Open Table. It was placed over the phone with the woman who later said I cancelled it. The same woman who showed little compassion or care that my family was now without a...

TLDR; Great service, crowded atmosphere, mediocre food. Would not recommend.

I was invited to a party in their banquet room. While walking to our table, I noticed the regular dining area seemed to be very crowded--tables and patrons very close to each other. While we had space in the side room, I don't think I would enjoy eating in the main dining area.

For food, we didn't get to order off the menu. The tables were served family style. The salad had nothing to it. It was lettuce, tomato, onion, and vinegar. Very bland. Their fried calamari had too heavy of a coating and came with no tentacles. Aside from that, the calamari itself was cooked perfectly, not chewy. Pot stickers were decent. The stuffed mushrooms seemed to be stuffed with a spicy sausage. I typically do not like a meat-stuffed mushroom, but these were decent. The garlic bread was great.

For the entree, they brought out chicken parm, eggplant rolatini, penne vodka, green beans. I LOVE eggplant and get it at restaurants all the time. The eggplant rolatini simply was not good. I didn't finish it (normally I'd go for seconds). The chicken parm was good--I enjoyed this--as well as the penne vodka and greenbeans.

The waitress assigned to our party was very nice, attentive, and professional.

I will not be returning because there are too many restaurants out their to try and this food was mediocre.

My girlfriend and I had been here last year for a birthday party, and found the food better than par. So we came back in late April for my birthday, and liked it so much that a week later we went there for a Sunday dinner. As before, the food was excellent, the service better than acceptable. There is one thing that is both good and bad about the place: it’s BYOB; good, because you don’t end up paying the exorbitant price one usually pays for a bottle (or carafe, or glass) of wine at any given restaurant; bad, because if you forget (as we had on my birthday), you have to settle for non-alcohol for your drink...which really isn’t all that bad, of course, since alcohol is not a necessity for either of us. And while a glass or two of wine a day is healthy, not having wine every day will not kill you either! Bistro 1051 is perhaps just a tad pricey, but the food is well worth the price: I have eaten cheaper fare elsewhere that was not at all worth the meager “savings”. And I have eaten meals in NYC for the same or higher prices that were far less satisfying. So if you want a quiet romantic meal with your significant other, want to celebrate in the company of a group, or just want to sit down to an excellent meal you can enjoy all by your lonesome, this is a place I would recommend without hesitation.
