I like to fancy myself a patron of the arts and I've been to many, many plays in my short run of life so far. I also attended Fontbonne University as an Art Student and seeing as how this theatre is in the Art Building it was hard to ignore. It wasn't too long before I decided to catch a play at the Mustard Seed Theater and I have to say I was completely and utterly blown away by the quality of the performances ... easily on par with any play I've seen at the Muny, The Rep and even the Fox. The detail put into the costume design, set design and the acting were wonderful. I can actually say that the plays I experienced at the Mustard Seed Theater helped to cultivate a love a Shakespeare (I nearly died laughing at their production of "Twelfth Night"), helped usher me out of an emotional fog, and even inspired me to have a religious experience that broke me out of a crisis of faith (through their production of "Godspell"). The variety of productions put on here is truly astounding, tackling delicate social issues with finesse and exploring the beauty and tragedy of the human condition with sensitivity and passion. With a theater like this one, you are looking straight at the action instead of looking upward. Although if you sit in one of the back rows, you are sitting up pretty high and can see straight into the eyes of the actors or be looking slightly downward.
