This is not a great library to get your work done. It could be a great library if it was more quiet to get your work done. If you are a serious student and someone who wants to work and not play then this is not the library to come to. Too many people come to the library and utilize it as a social hour & club environment instead of using it for a place to learn and educate themselves. Also some children that are dropped off by their parents at times contribute to the noise by being very loud at the computers playing computer games. This library is very noisy and the staff nor does anyone else implements quiet study.
Also it might be wise to wear a medical face mask while attending this library because people will spread their germs by coughing and not covering their mouths causing you to have a cold or flu. Also keep your property on you at all times there has been a history of thieves that attend this library. If you take your eye off of your property for a minute some disgruntled entitled fool might confiscate your property and you will never get it back AND little effort will be given to help you retrieve your items. Sorry, there needs to be a better library...
Read moreI attended a meeting recently [3-18-2023] at the Karl Road Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library at 5590 Karl Rd. in the "Forest Park" neighborhood of Columbus.
That library had been torn down and rebuilt during 2021 which means that the "Karl Road Branch Closing" "Google search" result that I had first seen when searching for their address [while certainly interesting for historical reasons] is no longer true.
I had been greatly impressed by the design of the new Karl Road Branch Library; I had particularly appreciated the two-story-tall atrium in the center of that library that is surrounded by a second-floor hallway that serves a purpose similar to that of a balcony.
And, as always, the staff at all Columbus Metropolitan Library locations is consistently friendly and helpful.
The meeting that I had been attending on 3-18-2023 at the Karl Road Branch Library had been an "interfaith sharing" event; it had been wonderful to be able to hear the sound of an entire room filled with people who had been singing a capella choral music in a neighboring room while our group had been sharing with each other [in our room] about our various faith traditions...
Read moreI find the Librarians and staff at this location (Karl road) to always be incredibly kind and helpful, especially during the pandemic. It doesn't matter if my books are late, I am trying to check out a million more, need help finding something, want to ask what my children's library card numbers are for the 40th time because I only have mine memorized, or need suggestions because my teenager likes chemistry but doesn't want a chemistry textbook, they are always there to help. I do not know why people are complaining about the lack of services right now, I am grateful they are available in any capacity at the moment; if they spent any time actually asking the Librarians or staff anything they would know they are always willing to help you however they can. When they are fully open are the kids and teens sometimes a little noisy...yes, but I also think it speaks volumes to this branch that those children view the library as a safe place to be no matter how frustrating that can sometimes be for all the adults involved (including the Librarians...
