Just south of Franklin Park, East Market is a vibrant vendor space, primarily consisting of high quality food and beverage options. Parking, while full on a Sunday afternoon, is free, but not ample I waited about seconds for a parking spot only to notice another spot was free in the row adjacent. Also I absolutely noticed traffic flow arrows painted that nobody bothered to follow. So just be vigilant. Once you've parked you can check out the remarkable brick industrial architectural elements for the building and the courtyard. The market holds a variety of food and beverage options, from boba tea, baked goods, to Korean bibimap and mandu, pizza, gourmet waffles, and more. You should find something you would enjoy browsing the aisles. I noticed local artwork in the space and only one non-food vendor. Space is limited in this building, but it would have been cool for them to add more local artists' works around the building and additional vendors with unique merchandise or artisanal goods, particularly local. That being said, I would be shocked if they didn't have additional vendors events in warmer months outdoors because the courtyard would be perfect space for concerts and outdoor markets. There are plenty of locations to sit and enjoy your food and people watch both downstairs and up in the loft. I would return here again as I found prices to be as expected for the food options, rather than ludicrously high for the location. I would come here and work while drinking coffee or tea...
Read moreWe have been multiple times since its in the neighborhood and gentrification has turned everything into an ax throwing bar, there's not a lot to do around here. Were it not for living in the neighborhood, I wouldn't have bothered. Because, I hate to break it to you, the community perception and reputation of this place is VERY POOR. What I've witnessed certainly justifies what I have heard. First of all, there's basically nothing here. Any time of day we've been in, less than half the stalls are open. The mini cheesecake place is tasty, but we threw what we'd just bought away after seeing roaches in an empty stall (there are a lot of empty stalls, only about 50% are occupied) and encountering a rat of considerable size in a side staircase (which is open to the public despite being bare particle board with no railings). I confirmed with 2 employees of a stall (which will remain nameless because the same people also informed me that retaliation from market management was also a problem) that property management is aware of infestations and refuses to remedy the situation. This is so disgraceful, on top of the project developer making frodulent promises to the city to secure public funding for this catastrophe. We're is the study center of CCS students? Where's the ADA compliance? Most importantly, where is the care to even maintain a...
Read moreThis place was not worth the money I spent there. Compared to other small markets I had been to, this was the least welcoming and had nothing noteworthy of sharing.
The only vendor that was nice and engaging was the grocer/butcher towards the back.
I had researched the place beforehand and all the reviews said it was amazing. I was very disappointed.
There was a vendor in the front that had drinks and I ordered the creamy coconut brew which was good but her attitude wasn’t very welcoming, so I won’t be returning to her stand.
The next stand was creole 2 geaux. They were out of the jambalaya mac n cheese so I ordered the mac n cheese as a side to the chicken po boy. Since there were not many vendors I planned on eating it at home.
When I opened the box I was so disappointed. Looks can deceiving so I tried it and it was horrible. There was also no seasoning on the fries, mac n cheese, or the po boy. A miss on all 3 foods.
From the butcher I got the pizza burger. mexican street corn sausage, and lambchopper goat cheese. I will be cooking all of that tomorrow so we will see how it goes.
Even though this experience left me feeling let down, I will be returning. I’m hoping that I just caught them on a bad day and hopefully I will have better experience next...
