This is an older "strip shopping center", (formerly known as "Shoppers World", whose key anchor store was a large Dart Drug). It has been rejuvenated several times, and is has a good variety of several mid-sized "anchor stores", not as commonly found, nor particularly thought of as anchor stores. Thus the parking for those stores is more convenient and closer, to the specific "destination store". It is NOT an enclosed mall, but generally has a open canopy across the fronts which provide weather-protection. Being an older shopping center also allows it to have several side and back entrances to the older residential neighborhoods behind it (several blocks off the main heavily trafficked 8-laned road that is Charlottesville's main north-south thoroughfare). For those living around this center, those side entrances are very convenient to avoid the tractor-trailers and heavy "through" traffic. The several main stores of interest (and usefulness are almost surprising. Besides the main center anchor of Staples, there is a large well-stocked Advanced Auto, a large Home Goods store, and a large "DSW" Shoe Store -- all generally with parking within just 8-10 spaces. Between those, are a good variety of smaller, but well-established stores, such as the excellent "Book Room" of used books, a quiet 1st class Italian restaurant (originally from No. Va.), which is one of the remarkably diverse restaurants for such a small shopping area: Jason's Deli, Firehouse Subs & BBQ, a carry-out Dominie's Pizza, and the inevitable Starbucks Coffee and main roadside McDonalds.... The topography of the old center requires several stairways and steps -- a little inconvenient for those physically handicapped, but the close parking and "off-the-beaten-path" style make up for the minor inconvenience. The uniqueness of this Shopping Center is emphasized by being directly across the Charlottesvile's main thoroughfare from the first, and only "fully enclosed Mall" -- with it's three big national-chain anchor stores, and the large variety of smaller high-end clothing, jewelry, and book stores, with significantly higher prices to provide it's 1000 parking spaces and indoor walking mall -- many of which are struggling in today's economy, so that "Mall" is half vacant -- and...
Read moreOmg i am obsessed with this place . I am half Belgian and I can get my European products there! Where do I begin!?! First the goal of this store is to bring amazing products at low prices not to pamper the customer so know that it is very bare bones. Not much decoration. Not much help. They do not bag for you. They don't do much for you its bare minimum customer service. But the produce? excellent. The products excellent. The prices? Shockingly low. We buy all our produce here, our cold cuts, our chocolate and did i mention the bakery!??! A must visit. Dont pay attention to the floors and walls the decoration is minimal and the store is quite ugly but the prices and products are excellent. If you need to buy flowers for someone this is your stop!! Super fresh and super cheap. I also love the produce is not messed with. It's straight...
