I had one bite of an enormous amount of things. The green beans are way too salty, the deserts are too sweet and mostly fake flavors. They have different green beans in different places so I only had green beans in one place. They were the canned ones not the long beans. The fish was awesomely good, the ribs were so tender it's impossible to describe how tender they were. Corn pudding was very good, however was also very sweet.. coleslaw was very good, also sweet. Fake fish salad should have had more salad stuff in it less fish. But if you mix it with the coleslaw it's very good. Friend had enchiladas and said they were very good, but too spicy for me. There is little chicken bits that are kind of orangish, too spicy for me. It was the spice kind of the creeps up on you after you eat. Medium done steak was good. Tender enough for me to eat which is a big deal. But not seasoned and no flavor really. Onion rings were over cooked, french fries were French fries, too big for my liking. I guess they were popcorn shrimp? They were so tiny it was just basically deep fried bread. Salad bar had lots of toppings, the beats were not pickled. You could choose between fake bacon bits or real bacon. Cornbread was just cornbread. Nothing special. Biscuits with alleged cheese in them, dry. Butter spread not butter. Excellent caramel sauce for ice cream or cake or whatever you going to put it on. Great selection of ice cream toppings but no nuts. Broccoli casserole was disgusting. They had melon slices, grapes, all kinds of stuff. If you don't eat something it was no problem. People we met at Sam's club suggested it, it was our first time and we're glad we went.
All the wait staff was extremely nice and courteous. It's rare to find that anywhere.
I did not try the other different kinds of chicken, I didn't try the yaqui mashed potatoes which were instant, my friend did and I took a bite. So I guess I did try it. I did not try the meatloaf.
Oh! Sweet potato pie, there was supposed to be a side dish, it was way way way too sweet.
I would say they have too much sugar in too many dishes.
We will probably be back in six months or so. But it's not going to be our go-to place. Red robin is.
A dollar off the dinner menu for seniors, which made it $14 each.
I took home a few of those mini Reese's pieces in my pocket....
Read moreWe had visited this restaurant before covid and this was the first time we have been able to go since the pandemic.
If you have a food allergy, a buffet can be a risky visit. If you are a germ-a-phobe, don't go to a buffet.
You can get food to go and pay by the pound.
Lots of variety to chose from. You do get your money's worth. Food is good, like home cooking. Problem is, not all of the buffet warmers are keeping the food at the right temperatures. Also the problem of missing food labels so you have no idea what some of the dishes are. Some items are room temp when you get them back to your seat. Some of the side dish items are cold when should be hot. Food is cooked fresh when brought out from the kitchen. It is not clearly labeled for traffic flow, where the gloves are, etc. There are rude people (other patrons) that have no respect or courtesy for others and they will block the areas where people are waiting to get to, let the kids run wild and terrorize parts of the buffet, etc.
Be cautious with the sweet tea. It is super sweet, like diabetes in a glass. You may want to get it half sweet and half unsweet. The soda was not as sweet.
Desserts was a big miss. They do serve ice cream which is ice milk for those that love it and have a hard time finding it. It's not soft serve, or the heavy cream based ice cream, or frozen yogurt. It's the good old ice milk. Nice toppings selection for it. The cakes, pies, cookies, etc, are a big miss. Too many cookies are left to sit out and not many people are bothering with them. Nothing is labeled to let you know what it is, so many are nervous to explore. Things are poorly cut for people to serve themselves and it's a mess trying to get some of the pieces out of the containers. Many of the items lack flavor, were stale, too warm when it should be chilled, etc.
If you remember the restaurants of old like Quincy's, Ryan's, Old Country Buffet, Fire Mountain Buffet, Golden Corral, etc., it's just like those. Those familiar large rolls with the whipped...
Read moreWood Grill Buffet in Charlottesville may require a trip from Northern Virginia, but trust me when I say it's well worth the journey, especially if you're in search of a superb buffet experience. The culinary offerings at this establishment are nothing short of exceptional, earning it a spot in the upper echelons of quality dining. The ambiance effortlessly creates an inviting and enjoyable atmosphere, while the service provided is truly top-notch. During my visit, I had the pleasure of being attended to by Jennifer, a server who went above and beyond to ensure my family's comfort. It was remarkable to witness Jennifer's attentiveness to even the smallest details, as she somehow knew about my daughter's shellfish allergy before we even mentioned it. This most have been evident to the Epipen my wife left on the table. Jennifer proactively informed us that if any issues arose concerning my daughter's food, she would personally oversee the preparation of her meal separately (and she did). This level of consideration and dedication was truly remarkable and made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. Jennifer's exceptional service added an extra layer of satisfaction, elevating the already outstanding cuisine at Wood Grill Buffet. I can't help but express my gratitude to Jennifer for her attentiveness and going the extra mile to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of my family. Our dining experience was truly enhanced by her efforts. In conclusion, while the food at Wood Grill Buffet is undeniably fantastic, it is the exceptional service provided by Jennifer that truly sets this establishment apart.
