I'm required to pay for it, but not allowed to take a picture of it from a public area. So says a security guard who was about as friendly as a junkyard dog. Awesome.

Please, please, please extend the CDC Eviction Moratorium for ALL evictions (barring illegal or harmful activities). We pay our rent on time and in full. Landlord tried to illegally evict us during the past six months (we used grocery money to appeal) and only the CDC Eviction Moratorium has saved us until Dec 31, 2020. Landlord wants to flip house and refuses to write us a Letter of Reference (so we are stuck here) OR extend our lease. My husband's income from working remotely supports seven adults. Our five college students lost jobs and cant attend college because of Covid19 closures, and etc. I have health issues, too and won't survive being homeless. Its a genuine mess out here. Im positive allowing the eviction moratorium to expire will put millions of families in harm's way. Please extend the eviction moratorium and include those of us whose landlords refuse to renew leases this protection from homelessness. There is literally nothing to rent within our limited budget. Thank you. Update: 12-29-2020 The heat went out on 12-26-2020- Landlord/owner refuses to fix it. She told us to buy space heaters and that her repairman has shingles. When I asked her for a company name and time (to expect a repair) she said she felt threatened. I have never threatened anyone in my life. If the house catches fire- it will be her fault(we could only afford to buy two and we have to move them around to take the chill off). (Shes aware that the electricity is mucked-up. When we use certain outlets the fuse breaker box buzzes, so we dont use them anymore.) What do we do? We can't afford to go to court to get her to fulfill her responsibilities. We are anxious to move but without a reference- we are stuck. If anyone has a safe place to rent in SC or NC- PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANK YOU. Update: March 22, 2021 We are still here. Landlord continues to threaten to take us to court. There is absolutely nothing to rent in safe neighborhoods. Our toxic landlord took 19 DAYS to fix the heat and raised our rent $575.00 a month. She thinks we can pay the increase- we cant- so keep paying the same amount. (There is no lease- so no agreement or meeting of the minds.) She needs to make major repairs to justify the increase - but continues to refuse to do so. Our stove only has two working burners- which she refuses to replace (its been broken since February 2020). What can we do? We would be homeless without the CDC Eviction Moratorium- for which we are extremely grateful. Please, please, please extend it. Update: 0514/2021 Landlord continues to threaten us with eviction. There is literally nowhere to rent that is safe, much less affordable. PLUS- landlord REFUSES to give us a positive reference. (We beat landlords first attempt at evicting us last year and it made her furious.) We continue to pay our rent on time, folks. Please extend the eviction moratorium into 2022. Right now with a gas shortage that is hopefully shortlived, rising inflation and difficulty finding work-- its an impossible situation. Update: 06-26-2021 Landlord sued us for eviction again. Its been NINE MONTHS since she and her attorney agreed to provide us a Positive Letter of Reference and a copy of our pristine 7year rental history. We qualified (and the judge in the case last year concluded so) for the CDC Eviction Moratorium. There has to be some justice. But for the landlord failing to adhere to the agreement we made at the courthouse last year- we would most likely have been able to move months ago. We dont want to live here. We dont want to deal with toxic drama. We are literally in limbo. There isnt a place for us to rent with seven adults on one income, cats and potted heirloom plants. We have tried churches, charities, strangers and etc for a year-- there is truly historically low inventory in the affordable rental market, folks. Im praying the CDC clarifies and extends the eviction moratorium so the housing market can settle and families like ours can find shelter. It seems unfair that our landlord (who just sold another one of her houses(next door)...
