Sand Beach is an excellent location for kayaking or paddle boarding, and Clearly Tahoe is a great place to rent equipment. Here’s a few pro tips:
To secure a parking space at Sand Beach, go early. The park opens at 7am, and lines form early during peak season. Parking costs $10/NV or $15 per car for all others.
At Clearly Tahoe, there are two lines, one for those who have a reservation and one for those who do not. If you wish to start your day on the water, make a reservation the day before. There can be a long line and those with reservations take precedence (meaning until the reservation line is empty) over those who do not.
When we finished kayaking around 11am there wasn’t any line (reservations or walk up). So if you don’t mind going out on the water later, there might not be a wait.
The advantage of being on the water early is very little waves. The later you’re out on the water, the busier the lake and that means more waves.
Clear bottom kayaks and SUPs are overrated. There isn’t a lot to see in the lake and you can see it from a regular kayak or SUP.
No dog’s allowed on the beach or in the kayaks/SUP.
There are plenty of water craft available. No need to worry that Clearly Tahoe will run out.
Life jackets are required to be worn. Both life jackets and dry bags for your stuff are provided.
Zone 3, the area available to explore, is pretty expansive. It includes a lot of shoreline and two coves. At the far south end of the zone is Thunderbird Lodge and the north end is Memorial Point.
Tours are available if you’re uncomfortable venturing out on your own.
It’s a beautiful setting and Clearly Tahoe offers a fun way to experience the...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would. My wife and I live over 2 hours away. So we thought we would get a hotel and make a whole trip out of this. 2 weeks ago I secure a reservation for a clear bottom kayak at 9am for 2 hours total. We are told on the reservation confirm email to get there 30 mins prior to go over a safety briefing and what not. As we get there 30 mins before our time we are hit with 2 entrances to closed to the rental facility and the state park entrance doesn’t all entrance to the rental. We call clearly Tahoe rentals and select on the Nevada side since that where we were renting from. All we heard from their automated voice message was that rentals are first come first serve and they aren’t accepting reservations. If this was the case why are they allowing people to book reservations and charging a $10 dollar non refundable deposit. I know $10 dollars isn’t a lot but a $300 hotel room, gas to drive here, and a deposit all adds up. Pretty unacceptable for a business to have shut doors on people with reservations secured and it’s awful business practice to not even reach out to the paying people securing reservations to let them know that it’s first come first serve. We weren’t the only people this happened to, talked to many other confused people that had the same thing happen to them the same day as us. I’d go anywhere but here...
Read moreWe really love our opportunity to paddle here. Unfortunately I was decided on the clear paddleboards despite staff suggesting they aren’t as strong and similar to an inflatable board. The transparent sups are not comparable to an inflatable. I’ve mostly always used inflatable. These are comparable to a firm floaty. There is no way you can stand on them. We had to kneel the whole time. Don’t do it! Take the regular ones! We were some of the reservations and despite having one the lines were long and the check in extremely slow. We didn’t get out until 9:40 for a 9 am registration. The park is switching to a reservation only system so this company won’t be taking advanced reservations. I think they are in transition with this new process. Everyone is friendly but they will have to develop a more efficient system for renting with more staff and more machines for processing. Lovely experience being able to paddle the south shore. The equipment was clean and in excellent condition. The pricing is high with exchange. We had to get to the parking lot by 7 am to park as it fills up fast but that will all change later this month with reservations only for parking. Cool eatery onsite with what looked like delicious options for alcoholic beverages. The line ups were too long for us. Gorgeous beach that...
