Iâm extremely disappointed with the treatment I received during a recent visit to Miami Roller Rink while attempting to register my daughter for their camp.
While trying to update her waiver (which had been filled out incorrectly during a prior visit with another adult), I politely explained the situation and asked to correct the information or submit a new form. Instead of being helped, I was singled out by a staff member named Bianca, who refused to allow any changes unless I presented a birth certificate or passport, a requirement that had never been previously mentioned and was not being enforced for others around us.
Despite my frustration, I complied and showed her the birth certificate via FaceTime. At that point, I was told the camp was only for children aged 8 and up, which directly contradicted the publicly available age policy advertised by the rink. When I pointed this out, Bianca changed her justification AGAIN stating that their counselors âdonât like working with younger children or children who have âenergy.â When I asked what that meantâparticularly in reference to my daughter, who has ADHD but is a talented and enthusiastic skaterâI received no clarification. Instead, the manager on duty simply walked away.
This experience raises serious legal and ethical concerns:
Disability Discrimination (Violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act - ADA): The implication that my daughter, who has ADHD, would not be welcomed because she has âtoo much energyâ strongly suggests discriminatory treatment based on a disability. ADHD is recognized as a protected condition under the ADA, and businesses offering public services are required to provide equal access and reasonable accommodationânot exclusion or bias. Unequal and Arbitrary Enforcement of Policies: Requiring documentation (a birth certificate or passport) from me but not from others around us may constitute discriminatory application of internal policies, which could violate consumer protection standards. Furthermore, the fact that the stated age requirement was changed mid-conversation suggests a lack of transparency and fairness in public advertising and service access. Failure to Train Staff on Non-Discrimination and Inclusion: The dismissive behavior by both the staff member and the manager, especially after I disclosed my daughterâs ADHD, points to a broader concern regarding lack of staff training on inclusive practices and disability sensitivity. Misleading or Deceptive Business Practices: If the camp age range was publicly advertised as including younger children, yet access was denied based on personal preferences of the counselors, this could fall under false advertising or deceptive trade practices, which are prohibited by Floridaâs consumer protection laws. This experience felt discriminatory, inconsistent, and deeply unwelcoming. My daughter was not only penalized for a clerical error and an unclear policyâbut was seemingly judged for who she is. As a parent, I left feeling shocked, hurt, and angry at the lack of professionalism, inclusion, and legal compliance exhibited by the staff.
Miami Roller Rink must urgently review its policies, ensure ADA compliance, and provide immediate staff training on respectful and lawful treatment of families and childrenâespecially those with disabilities. I am considering filing formal complaints with the ADA, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and other relevant agencies if no meaningful corrective steps are taken.
I sincerely hope this business reflects seriously on how families are treated moving forward. No child should be excluded or mistreated due to arbitrary rules, inconsistent enforcement, or bias against neurodiverse...
Read moreHad an incredible time here!!! I drove all the way from Tampa to vend here for âGoth Skate Nightâ because of such an interesting event. It was one of the most amazing skating rinks Iâve ever been to. It was really nostalgic to me because going to the roller rink every weekend was what I did in middle school.
The venue was REALLY big! Thereâs a side where you would sit and eat that was well lit and spacious with plenty of tables. Thereâs an arcade center and a bit to the right of it would be where you rented skates. There are also prizes, a store for some purchases (you can buy skates there too) and they also have these things where you can balance yourself on them. They kinda remind me of walkersâŠbut on wheels.
The rink itself was so big! The lane is very wide and could accommodate so many people without fear of bumping or running into each other. The floor itself was smooth, clean, and well lit with mood lighting. Nice crisp sounding music at a good volume played from the stage IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RINK. Itâs so cool! The walls and floors of the building of course had that fuzzy colorful carpet that we all know and love.
The ceilings were really high and made the place seem even bigger, which helped with the crazy amount of people that showed up. It did not get too hot or too cold in there either. Iâm glad there was no weird smell from the venue, and the skate rentals were pretty clean! The lighting for each section of the building was appropriate and aided in the vibes.
It was really fun to see my fellow goths flying down the roller rink in their long flowing shawls or just witnessing a sea of people in black clothing. The atmosphere was electric! I grew more confident to not hug the walls as I skated and I had one of the employees show me how to stop.
It took some time packing up my booth because we had a lot of stuff as well as a last minute rush of customers. The employee (I thinkkkkk named Jonathan? I could be wrong. It was 2:30am at that point and I could barely keep my eyes open đ©) he was so so so incredibly nice and helpful. He helped bring our stuff into the car and said something pretty funny âanyone still on the clock come grab this stuffâ. A couple of dudes followed suit and made everything much quicker. What a gentleman and the guys were so strong!
We arenât locals (weâre from Tampa) but making the decision to drive 3+ hours to attend the event and to be met with such kindness and having an amazing experience made it absolutely worth it!
Apparently this place has been around a long time and thereâs one specific employee that has been there since the very start. I think 1988??? Bright and positive energy. Checked up on people often, and was all in all a good representation of what the roller rink was.
This has easily become one of my favorite places in Miami. Of all the times to try out a roller rink, this...
Read moreWe celebrated my daughterâs 10th birthday this past Saturday at the Miami Roller Rink, and I canât say enough great things about the experience. From the moment I booked the party online, the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. They answered all my questions and made sure everything was seamless leading up to the big day.
On the day of the party, the service truly blew me away. The team was polite, professional, and so helpful â they assisted me with bringing everything inside, and when I walked into the VIP room, I was stunned. It was fun, stylish, and perfect for a glow up celebration. The atmosphere was amazing.
Now I have to give a huge shoutout to Arianne and Adrian â our party assistants â who were simply outstanding. I couldnât believe how professional, friendly, and efficient they were. They helped with everything from setup to cleanup, stayed on top of every detail, and made sure I didnât have to lift a finger. Their level of service is something I havenât experienced in a long time. For such young individuals, their professionalism was beyond impressive!
The roller skating was a blast â the music, the lights, the energy â everything was just perfect. I actually used to come here when I was younger, so seeing my daughter make her own memories in the same place was extra special. The rink was spotless and well-maintained, and everyone had such a great time.
At the end of the party, they even moved everything to an after-party table for us â such a thoughtful touch. When it came time to check out, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner. He walked me through everything to make sure I was 100% satisfied. His commitment to excellent service was the cherry on top of an already amazing experience.
I received so many messages afterward from parents telling me how much their kids loved the party. I honestly loved it so much that Iâm now thinking about throwing a party there for myself!
If youâre considering hosting a birthday or event here â donât hesitate. Just book it. You absolutely wonât regret it. The staff, the service, the vibe â all of it was top-notch. My daughter had the time of her life, her friends had a blast, and I left feeling truly grateful for such a perfect day.
Thank you, Miami Roller Rink â you made this milestone birthday...
