I just want to address my concern about the old guy in the fish area (the one who wore the red t-shirt and was positioned to very left corner of the fish section when you want buy some fish etc.) We arrived like around almost 6PM ON FRIDAY then I went there to the fish section to buy some fish like pompano, tilapia, milk fish, mackerel, squid etc like I always do. I pointed out the fish that I wanted, then he brought it to his table, ready to clean, but then I told him I want this as well pointing out to the other fish then he came back put the fish on that stainless thing then BEFORE I UTTER A SINGLE WORD he went back to his table again ready to clean the fish again!! and so I what i did is to call him to tell him that i want more kind of fish but then he was a little bit irritated because what I understand from him even though i dont know his language is that " I didn't point it all at once" how can I say that at once when " He, every time I point it out the fish that I like He is ready to go to his table and ready to clean the fish and DIDN'T STAY TO ASK ME AT ONCE LIKE...WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT AND BRING IT ALL AT ONCE ON HIS TABLE TO CLEAN? FROM THE BEGINNING IS I WANT TO POINT IT ALL THE THINGS AT ONCE FOR HIM NOT TO COME BACK TO TAKE MY ORDER AGAIN TO MAKE IT EASY FOR HIM AS WELL. INSTEAD HE COMPLAINED ON HIS LANGUAGE THAT I ALWAYS CALL HIM AND THAT MAKES ME ANNOYED. NEXT TIME SIR ASKED THE CUSTOMER AT ALL ONCE THEN CLEAN THE FISH AT ONCE FOR YOU TO BE EASY AND NOT TO BE ANGRY TO THE CUSTOMER WHO JUST WANT TO GO THERE SHOP AND GO HOME. SO DISRECTFUL OF YOU TO THE CUSTOMER WHO JUST WANT TO SHOP AND LEAVE!! (We were on the fish section around past 6 pm. You can check your camera) I kept my composure at that time, then left with my friends. I am the person trying to smile always and be kind to others, especially to the customer service like them. SO RUDE OF...
Read moreI go here for all the things I need (and didn't know I needed) to prepare Asian dishes via recipes I want to try. I often go for specifics, but I usually pick up at least one item I've never tried before to see what it's like.
Most recently, I went because the manufacturer of these delicious salmon skins listed them in their "where to buy" locations. I'd bought a bag at C*o, but they were out days later (typical...LOL). This store had one big bag and one smaller bag left on the shelf, and I bought them both. While a dollar higher than the big box store price, it was a little over a dollar cheaper than buying direct from the manufacturer's website.
I've purchased items over my many visits from every area of the store. People are professional, but not necessarily "friendly," but I don't need giggles and waves as much as I need efficiency and good prices. Just don't be rude. As in all Asian markets, there's an odor in the air (sometimes mild, sometimes pungent) that doesn't typically exist in most grocery stores, but I attribute that to more variety of spices and fresh food items than in other stores. Culturally, it caters to their country's likes. They do not necessarily have to modify the sights, sounds, smells, or displays to appeal to people who do not understand the importance of honoring a people's cultural aesthetics to favor their own.
In my experience, the customership is courteous, and staff is helpful. There can be a language barrier depending on who you approach, but once, I was able to complete my list of about five needs by referencing the recipe I was attempting to recreate. He took me to every item, no words needed.
I would actually rate them 4.5, taking off a half star because the fresh seafood area is sometimes abrasive, and to denote the odor factor, but it's a...
Read moreThey have an amazing variety of food. I love that. However, I DIDNT love that I drove for over an hour and was sold the wrong fruit for $6.75 and it spoiled 2 days later. Mom has cancer and they are one of the few places that carry sour sob. I called ahead of time and drove a long way in the high heat to help mom with her bathroom issues. The fruit is supposed to be great for it. I had a hard time finding it so I asked the lady at the register and she and another younger lady pointed it out. I noticed the two fruit left looked slightly different and asked the lady 2xs is she sure they are the same sour sob fruit she assured me they were. So I paid the $6.75 2xs. After further research once i made it home, I realized one was sour sob and the other called sweet sob or sweet apple. It took a little bit of digging but my online community didn't recognize it as being the same so I was curious as to why they didn't look the same yet had similar features. Anyway, I held on to them a few days and opened them last night. Both were rotten inside with a bad smell. The outside looked fine but once I wet it it turned dark. I probably should have consumed it right away instead of waiting but I was waiting on my mom to pick the one up. So this review is for bring sold the wrong fruit, not necessarily the ripeness of the food. Overall, I recommend this store for its great Asian food selection but NOT for its knowledgeable sales people. It's possible she knew it wasn't the same and couldn't see I suppose......
