Largest private home in America. Definitely get the audio guide! Show up early (9am) or stay late to avoid the crowds in the house. Took us 2 hours with the audio guide without a crowd, but could take 3+ hours to get through if you get caught in the crowd. Learned so much from the audio guide as there aren't any signs posted to describe the rooms.didnt get to go out on the Loggia since it was cold (went January 2 for our anniversary). A free tasting was included at the winery and lots of little shops to stop in. Also enjoyed the small wedding exhibit. Didn't realize that the Vanderbilt's were related to the Kennedy's! The gardens we're pretty dead during the winter season but the Greenhouse was nice and warm and full of orchids and poinsettias. The house was still decorated for Christmas with a tree in every room and several Nativity scenes throughout. I would definitely recommend a visit while in Asheville. Read moreReally enjoyed our trip here. Was I. Town for business and Dr used to spend the day. The winery is very nice. Along with a couple Boutique style restaurants, and a wonderful ice cream shop. Will stop back the next time we travel to this area. May even stay in one of the hotels. They looked to be very nice. Bit pricy. But that is to be expected. And no more pricy than other vacation...
