Poor customer service and bad expectation setting. Staff definitely needs training on transparency and prioritization. They are only interested in things they can get done quickly with high markup i.e. screen replacement or simple troubleshoot they can charge the elderly in this area for.
Brought in an Xbox One on a Saturday around noon for what was likely a hard drive failure. Was told that if it were a hard drive, it would be about an hour. If not they would have to diagnose and it would "worst-case" e end of day but they'd "definitely" let me know by day's end.
I didn't hear anything so about 30 minutes before closing I called. They said they were busy and just didn't have time to get to it yet, but would get to it first thing in the morning. Okay, no big deal. So, I wait until the end of the next day to call again, just to see of they had looked at it. I got the same excuse that they were just so busy that they couldn't get to it and again was told that it would be looked at first thing in the morning. I said, "Okay no problem, I understand, but you've said the same thing now for 2 days and you haven't even looked at it." He told me I was more than welcome to come pick it up I said no, I want it fixed, but I'd rather you be honest with me about when you can get to it.
Of course, they didn't get to it the next day, (Monday). In fact, I didn't hear from them until I called at EOB on Wednesday. I called in and was relieved to hear that it was actually a hard drive, and they ordered it. It should be done no later than Friday.
Come Friday, about mid afternoon I called to confirm it would be ready. This time I was told that it STILL had not been diagnosed, that they once again were too busy and didn't have a chance to get to it. Again, I was told I am welcome to come pick it up.
I got there to pick up my system and they didn't even return my power cord I had provided, though it was labeled and kept together. I informed them about the experience I had, that they continuously kept putting me off instead of being honest about the time frame and they still refused to take any sort of accountability. Instead, they blamed being understaffed and having a lot of customers bringing in devices. Then, they let the secret slip, that they prioritize repairs over diagnostics. I asked if that meant they had basically been cascading dozens of screen replacements and "quick fixes" ahead of me and he confirmed that that does sometimes happen.
Well, it doesn't "sometimes" happen. It's regular practice. More than anything, they showed a complete lack of integrity and accountability. There was no proactive communication, nobody seemed to care about gaining or losing business. I certainly don't recommend their services. I can't even tell you if they're good at what they do because they're so bad at getting to work I never found out.
I spent a fraction of what they were charging for a standard HDD and got a solid state and all the tools I needed to get the job done from Best Buy. I then spent about 30 min. I had submitted a work ticket online and they were obviously reviewing their communications regularly because they knew exactly who I was and what my problem was when I came in the door. I was greeted almost immediately then we reviewed the issues I had including the unhappy black screen of death. It was my primary laptop of course the one that I had not backed up and it was in sad shape physically falling apart and inaccessible. I left confident however that they were going to do their very best and recover my data as well as set my machine back up to a usable state.
My laptop was a disaster. they had to order virtually a whole new kit and the data pull had me nervous.. Of course I had not backed up my data recently and had no idea where any of my recovery information was after a move and a burglary I was in bad shape. However every time I call them I got someone who was able to tell me exactly what was happening and where they were in the process. Each time I called I hung up confident that if it were possible they would make it happen.
Turms oit I had done a number on it so I did not receive my original machine back. My insurance gave up and replaced the physical . The important part was my data and they were able to recover it perfectly which was brilliant. I was quite nervous I'll admit and think I spoke to everybody who works in that office at least once. As I mentioned, each time they were knowledgeable about my case and were polite and efficient while relaying whatever updates were in order. That is something special, you don't have to wait for your guy to respond or your tech to come back in the office. EVerybody has a handle on it and they know what's going on and where you stand in the repair situation.
So true to then goofy name I broke it and they did fix it to the best of possible outcomes . I'm sure my insurance gave up before they would have . But my all important data capture was accomplished and that was really what was needed.
Back up your data people ! And keep all those security recovery keys in a safe place!
The detsils: Clean location , easy to access, lots of parking getting in and out of the strip where the store is, is easy.. Everyone is polite, friendly , explains everything clearly while taking on the task.. They imbue confidence which is important when you're handing over all your precious information.
