Jabo's Ace Hardware Coppell — Attraction in Coppell

12th time is not a charm. I keep going here because it’s close to my house, but I’ve never had great experience.

The whole benefit of a small, more expensive, local hardware store is the old guy moonlighting there because retirement is boring and he is sick of his wife. This old guy knows everything about everything and shows you exactly what you need. This Ace is the opposite experience. A bunch of obviously disinterested kids and peri-homeless employees here. YES, it IS possible to get the one of two older guys there who KINDA at least know what isle to send you to or even make a few decent recommendations. This is the absolute minority and 93% of the employees have zero idea what’s going on. I swear, they are circulating halothane gas through the air system because the employees today were like zombies or just really stoned.

I went to have 2 propane tanks filled. After paying and reminding the cashier (after 2 solid minutes of her vacant stare) to use her secret service neck radio to have a peri-homeless meet me at the refill area, I was notified that not a single soul in the store is qualified to fill my tanks. The guy tells me he can exchange my tanks but I need to go inside, get a refund and pay an extra $11 for the exchanges.

Whilst I’m waiting in line again, a nice lady walks up and asks the cashier and an employee standing next to her where to find a certain kind of tape. The mannequin employee next to the cashier says “I dunno, maybe try aisle 3.” Those weren’t just quotation marks for the sake of quotation marks, that was a verbatim quote.

I explain to the cashier the propane conundrum, she says “sorry.” I ask if I can just do the exchange and avoid the whole refund and $11 up charge. She says “sorry.” I tell her to just do the refund and won’t need the exchange. She says “okay, soorrry.” Then she mutters something about “maybe I can see about discounting…” trails off and expertly completes the refund. I ask “what were you saying about discount” and she excitedly and energetically asks “would you like to wait until someone who can refill them comes back?” I ask if she knows about when that will be and she, defeated, says “no, I don’t know, sorry”

Strange store. Entertaining, but strange. Not great if you need a specific item, or advice on an item or the...

Guess I caught a bad apple: I called in to get a price on glass and getting it cut. I was told over the phone the price was .03 per square inch. I was told this again when I got to the store before the associate went back to get the glass. Based off the amount of glass I was buying (1221) my total should have been 36.63. Instead My total was based off of 1728 square inches and my total was 51.84. Nearly twice what I was expecting. I told the associate at the register this (who was very nice), and the manager on duty, Zach, overheard. He said I was charged based off a full sheet of glass. I said that they should disclose that, because that is not what I was quoted, I was quoted .03 cents per square foot and showed him my measurements. He then said, well it depends if we have glass for it or not. To which I said it should not matter if your quoting a price for a product and a service, that's why its a quote, not an estimate. He then shrugged me off and returned to his little computer station and drank some water. Very unprofessional and dishonest. I will drive further to a different store to avoid this location. The cashier, and person that cut my glass were great. Your pricing honesty and manager zach have ruined your location for me, and who knows...

This is the cleanest, most organized, and awesome hardware store on earth! They stock everything from paint to plants, wind-chimes to wall anchors, candles to crazy-glue, and decor to demolition equipment. The staff were approachable, knowledgeable, and helpful. Not only did they ensure I found exactly what I needed, I overheard them going above and beyond for a phone customer. The location is convenient with great parking. Their product selection ranges from economical to top-of-the-line for every category. They even have an incredible gifts section full of unique, useful, and original items. I can hardly believe that I'm looking forward to my next visit to a hardware store, but I'm excited to come back! Thank you, especially, to the young lady at the front counter (she had several bracelets on, but I don't remember her name) who helped me with the color of an item I was looking at. When I commented on how much I appreciate the high-quality of this store, her response was: "Thank you. This place is great, and I LOVE working here!" Wow! Who hears that anymore these days. 100-stars aren't enough, but I give it all five! Thank you, again....
