Great place for dogs. Truly stellar. Parking is very accessible, and usually a minimum of 5 to 10 open pkg spaces exist anytime it is open. There is also a back parking lot, located to the east of tennis courts and skating area. There are 2 separate areas for large and small dogs. Both are fenced.
Large dog area is huge. It is free to use. Their are bags provided for dog waste disposal. Don't be a loser. Pick up your dog poop with a disposal bag. There are numerous trash receptacles located in the park. Also 8 self filling water bowls are available for dogs to access.
There have been several infrequent reports of the possibility of Parvo exposure over the years. I would NOT take a dog there unless already vaccinated, and especially if not current in vaccination for Parvo. Only concern I have seen over many years. Closes at 9pm. Closed Wednesdays as of now.
There is typically a light to moderate, cool to cold, prevailing wind between 5 to 9pm. I suggest you bring a jacket and the appropriate outer garment clothing so you don't get cold during your visit.
During event days at the OC fair, located directly across the street, plan on spending 30 to 45 minutes in traffic delays when fair is in operation between the hours of 5 to 8pm. I suggest not entering off of the 55 freeway lanes during that time. Use Fairview street, and enter through the neighborhood street back entrance. The street access from Fairview southbound will be closed to left turn traffic during OC fsir event days. Plan your route accordingly to minimize delays.
*Note to parents..Do not bring your small children into the large dog area. When your kids run, that is a trigger for dogs to chase them. Since dogs innate nature is to run in packs, if you bring your child, and he runs around as all kids do in a large open area, the very real possibility of dog bites, injuries, and/or long term mental trauma which will present for the rest of their life, and manifest in their life as a fear of dogs. Please don't do that to your child. Be a stellar and good parent, not a dysfunctional one.
Thank you for entertaining the above. Come, bring your dogs and both you and your dog(s) will have immense fun. Did I mention exercise for your dog....
Read moreI like this dog park. It's also a big park with other activities available that I have never really paid attention to. Easily accessible and the exit is down the street from the highway.
A good amount of parking in the parking lot, but it does get very crowded in the evenings. You might be taking a couple circles around a lot because there's no street parking.
There is the requisite big dogs and small dog parks that are separated. Very clean Park, people take very good care of picking up their dogs Poo. Real grass. Picnic tables for people to sit at with trees to shade them.
What I like best about this park is the people that visit it and their dogs. Everyone is very nice. Every dog is so well-behaved. Yes there is barking and playing, but no fights. People are conscientious of each other space, of what their dogs are doing. But you can easily strike up a conversation with a stranger. You get a lot of good dog advice if you ask for it. The dogs seem to all really enjoy it here and play well together.
That being said I've heard stories about people who have come in; like a the dog walkers or people the other don't mind their dog or their dog is unruly. They will be asked to leave very quickly. It's just not tolerated here. So don't bring your unruly dog or a think that you can come here and ignore your dog and their poop.
People don't often leave toys behind, so if your dog likes a squeaker or ball, bring one. There isn't much to the Parks. A hill, walking path that goes through it to the benches, water stations but they don't work on the small side. The big side has dirt and grass benches trees all the it's stuff. Lights for night time but this place doesn't stay open that late, you have enough time to squeeze in a visit after work.
Go ahead, take a load off, sit on the benches, but you still have got to know what's going on. People are engaging with their pets and with each other. Come here to have fun...
Read moreI normally enjoy this park however today my dog was attacked and bitten by this lady’s two dogs. When I confronted her she stated that the wound was nothing and my Cane Corso was the aggressor. Although my dog could have easily hurt both of hers I have great control over him and was able to stop him before he went on the defensive. When I asked her to exchange information and if her dogs were up to date on their vaccinations she refused to answer me and walked away. After speaking with several other dog owners at the park they shared similar stories with me of their dogs being attacked. As I followed her to her car she began screaming racial slurs at me and cursed me out. Not once did she apologize or show any remorse for the injury her dog caused. I will be contacting animal control and will file a report to make her pay...
