Beautiful park in the middle of Old Town Cottonwood. I was expecting it to be ho-hum but it felt like I was walking in a forest in a fairy-tale as the tree leaves felt as the wind blew. The area was lush and filled with green trees and grass, and if you follow the signs that say Jail Tree- you will eventually reach the river, and you will see it flow- the water was a bit muddy but peaceful to hear it babble by.
Along the way, there are interpretive signs scattered throughout. It took about an hour or less than that to walk to that riverbank and then double back. I felt pretty safe walking through the paths. Parking was hard to come by, but we didn't have to walk too far from where we found a spot. Good shopping close by, so we were able to do some window shopping after our daughter got worn out on the trail. We didn't bring our dogs, but we crossed paths with quite a few on our way. Read moreI like that the trail is easily accessible and has ample parking. The interpretive boards make for an informing walk along the Verde River. The cottonwood trees are HUGE! I only saw two other people on the trails and aside from some traffic noise from town it was a peaceful 30 minutes. There seems to be an abundance of criss-crossing social trails and it made the route slightly confusing but not problematic. I saw a number of herons roosting in a tree and two ducks in the river.
