You can do this hike in an hour (the long, gradual trail), OR you can go for the 282 uneven stone stairs and hit the top and back in 20 minutes. It's almost harder coming down, though, because by then your legs are tired and if it's cold out, mine cramp up so I feel like I might just buckle and tumble! There are several open landings where you can step aside and catch your breath.
Apparently the record for someone getting up the fastest was only 2 minutes, but Jesus f, that seems insane to me!!
There's a public restroom that's open at the top, but the visitors center is closed for now. Pretty crowded, there's really no avoiding people on the stairs, but most people were wearing masks when we went today - mine was damp by the end, though, because it's a real workout. There seem to be a lot of kids who stand in the middle of pathways, and seem to be unaware that the stairs are difficult at all, haha! If you're very worried about social distancing and masks, be aware that kids are being some real kids out there and will bump into you and not notice they're huffing and puffing right at you... You've gotta run your defense and just avoid getting close to 'em.
TOTALLY worth a stop!! We even found a meter that someone had paid ahead, still had 2.5 hours left on it when we left! A nice quick thing to conquer just to...
Read moreIt has a great view of Los Angeles. This is a great place to work out. You can come here to jog, walk and do stairs. There is also some monkey bars on top of the mountain. All trails and stairs are clean. There is fruit, smoothies, shakes and other goodies sold at the street at the bottom of the mountain.
There is three ways to get to the top of the mountain. The mountain has giant stairs. An entire up hill of stairs. There is a dirt trail that goes around the mountain to the top were the stairs end. There is also the dirt trail that connects with a bridge to Kenneth Hahn park. Another way to the top is walking through the pavement road for cars to the top.
Parking is free if you park away from the mountain and in a section that doesn't charge. If you park up top the car road u have to pay. If you do street parking you have to pay the meters. Parking is free at Kenneth Hahn through out the week During weekends and holidays you have to pay.
The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because dogs are not allowed on the trails in the mountain or on the stairs. Before it was allowed but now it's not. There is park enforcement that will kick you out if they see you with your dog on the trails. Dogs are only allowed up the hill on the pavement road that's for cars. Not a dog friendly...
