Stylist made me feel very uncomfortable. I was booked for my second Brazilian Blowout at JRS. I was not so much greeted, but told to sit down by the stylist. When I asked questions regarding the difference between a Keratin treatment and a Brazilian, answers were very short, and I was told they were the same treatment. I never knew this. I have had 3 Brazilian treatments in total, my last one at this salon, and was simply curious about the Keratin, because I understood from previous education from a stylist at the salon that they were two separate processes with different aftercare.
The stylist didn’t speak with me at all for the duration of the 3 hour treatment, except to ask who cut my hair last. Which is fine… I’m not much for small talk. But it was very uncomfortable, given that I would make a small comment, and would be completely ignored by the stylist, who clearly didn’t have a problem speaking with other people around us. 2 hours into my treatment, I was handed off to someone else to help rinse my hair. This person took the time to ask me how my day was, and offered me something to drink which was really nice of her. When I was handed back to the stylist for the final parts of the process, I asked the stylist if he was going to blow out my hair. He responded, “why would I do that? This is a Keratin treatment.” I clarified what he meant by asking again, “I thought this was a Brazilian.” And he said, “it is. I have to flat iron it. If I don’t, I run the risk of it not working properly.” I still didn’t understand, as the last time I was treated at JRS, Chris did a blow out at the end. I let the stylist know that I had an event after, and that I don’t prefer my hair stick-straight… which is why I inquired about the difference between a Keratin and Brazilian. He told me it was at my own risk if he didn’t flat iron, and that I would just be wasting my money. I asked him if he could please add some sort of curl with the flat iron, to which he told me no, and proceeded to argue with me and tell me “I’m not trying to be an a**, I just want you to get your money’s worth.” Which I completely understood. I would have simply liked my questions answered and clarified before beginning the treatment, had he even taken the time to listen to me.
He then later told me he could do a simple beach wave. I was happy with the outcome, though not impressed with the stylist’s communication or customer service. Given that I spent $550 dollars for my service, a simple “how are you, do you want anything to drink, do you have any questions before we proceed,” would have made me a little less uncomfortable. I almost felt that he personally just did not like me for one reason or another. I have had four different services at this salon, and thought I had found my new home. Sadly, I won’t be back due to...
Read moreAll that glitters is not gold. I chose this place for the great reviews here and also due to the fact that my stylist moved to Arlington and was too far of a drive. I had an appointment for balayage with Alexcya. She did a good job albeit missed all of my greys when I clearly requested to have them covered. What I found upsetting specially as a first time new client was the neglectful treatment. Of the 4 hours I spent at the salon I only got to sit with the stylist for the first 30 mins while she was foiling me. the rest of the time I was handed off to the shampoo girl. After the shampoo I was asked if I wanted to dry my own hair. It wasn't made clear to me if blow dry was an extra charge (which I have never had to pay to any of my previous stylists due to the high price tag to begin with). I complacently sit in the chair to dry my own hair while the shampoo girl points out a drawer with a bunch of brushes and products for me to pick and walks off. Finally after a few mins of struggling to find a product on my own the owner who happens to be at a chair behind me notices and decides to help (much appreciated) I take a good 15 mins to dry my hair and sit there for another 10 mins waiting on Alexcya to come see my color. Finally after feeling like a damn fool I got up to go pay at the front desk. There was an issue with the invoice where I was being overcharged so the front girl went to ask my stylist. This is when finally Alexcya comes in and Im asked if I liked my color. It was initially blotchy so she again sends me back to the shampoo girl with instructions. Again never coming back to check on the end color. Thats when it got to me and I walked out with sopping wet hair and ended up crying in my car. Ive never felt this neglected and unimportant. I was in that salon like a lost puppy. I did send Alexcya a message and she offered to make it up to me but honestly after a such a bad experience Id rather make the drive to Arlington to my old stylist. At least she appreciates my business and gives me the time and service that I paid for. Seems like this salon is only concerned with their regulars.
P.S Im still having to cover my greys myself at home after spending 4 hrs of my time and money at...
Read moreI got my hair cut by Jovanny after doing the match maker quiz on the website to find a stylist that would be the best suited for me. He was the number one choice!
I ran into some traffic causing me to be 15+ minutes late. He still waited for me and accommodated me. I appreciate that so much because he didn't have to do that. *I apologize profusely for being late! Especially at the end of the work day... I am so embarrassed. 😬
As a cosmetologist, I have always had issues finding a stylist or barber who can make me feel comfortable enough with the process of letting go and allowing someone else to take control of my hair. I am really picky about my hair because I'm very self conscious about my asymmetrical receding hairline. Getting a haircut became something I would usually dread. I have hated my hair for 9 years straight. I was getting to the point where I would avoid looking in the mirror as much as possible because my hair was so unmanageable and shapeless.
Jovanny did a thorough consultation and listened to all of my preferences. He was very informative and knowledgeable in his craft. He was also very easy to talk to and hilarious! He gave me some wonderful suggestions that worked so much better than the picture I brought in while still incorporating key aspects of that picture.
I went with his recommendations and put my trust in his expertise. I must say that I am beyond pleased with the results and I have zero regrets aside from wishing I could have left a higher gratuity than 27%. Jovanny breathed new life into my hair and helped me regain some much needed self confidence. He even gave me advice on how to be a more successful hairstylist myself!
This was by far the most elating salon experience I have ever had. I was even given a complimentary glass of red wine! I highly recommend booking an appointment with Jovanny at the Johnny Rodriguez Salon. Especially if you are looking for an amazing transformation and quality experience!
Thank you so much again! I absolutely love this haircut! I didn't know my hair could look this good. 😊 I will definitely be making an appointment...
