Despite its former reputation as a premier dining destination, my recent experiences at Shinsei have left much to be desired. Having frequented the establishment more times than I can count over the years, I have noticed a stark decline in both the quality of the cuisine and the level of service. Last night, as I brought two friends to dine at the sushi bar, our disappointment was palpable. The miso soup, typically a comforting starter, was rendered nearly inedible due to excessive saltiness. Despite assurances from our server that our food would be staggered to ensure a seamless dining experience, everything arrived at once, leaving our hot dishes lukewarm and unappetizing. The sushi rolls were lackluster and surprisingly warm, lacking the freshness I had come to expect. The sashimi, typically delicate and pristine, was inexplicably minced, a departure from the traditional presentation. Throughout the evening, our server was noticeably absent, disappearing multiple times without attending to the quality of the dishes being served. Even the manager, who approached us looking rather slovenly, offered little in the way of reassurance or resolution, merely uttering a perfunctory apology. Despite my longstanding patronage, I can no longer justify subjecting myself or my guests to such subpar...
Read moreThe food is great and the servers are nice and attentive. However, for some reason, the management has decided to treat people without reservations like they shouldn't be there. We arrived at 5:15, and the restaurant had at least 10 open tables and we were told the soonest we could be say without a reservation was 7pm, unless we ate at the sushi bar.
No restaurants are fully booked at 5:15, so we assumed we wouldn't need a reservation. However, we complied and ate at the sushi bar, because we had plans later that evening. While we were eating we saw that there were reservations still available at 5:30 online, so obviously they weren't fully booked. They could have let us have a regular table.
That being said, we enjoy the food and the wait staff is attentive and considerate. The sushi is great. By the time we finished our meal and left, there were still 7 empty tables. We counted.
Thanks for the hospitality. I guess, make a reservation from your car in the parking lot before walking...
Read moreA hidden gem for sure, I've lived in Dallas all my life and was amazed I have never dined at this beautiful place.
The lighting, decor and music, all add a great experience with friends, my only issue was how close all the tables are. Gives a bit of tension between tables, but still the ambience is beautiful.
KC was spectacular! He was humorous, well versed in the menu, the manager was very attentive and we had the pleasure of having one of the assistant servers bring us a soy Chile sauce, which was delicious with any sushi roll!
Four of us dined and had a great spread, but the main dish, the Chile and Tempura whole Red Snapper is a must! The noodles and sauces served, are enough for us to dine, even if you only have that for your dinner you'll be extremely impressed.
Definitely recommend for client dinners, a lovely anniversary or just a...
