I've been a member since October 2020 and starting off it was a great gym. Always clean, very kind staff, and incredible members. Up until last year (2023). Things started to feel like they were going downhill and I couldn't quite place why until I started talking to fellow members. Now that I am making other LifeTime locations my main gyms, I want to leave a review. Enjoy my list- hopefully I can save you money (there's nicer gyms for way less nearby, unless you can drive over to LifeTime Plano which is 100x better than this location)
First, let me start with something positive and the reason I didn't give this place 1 star- -Santana, Reba, LeeDonna, and Ginger are the BEST instructors. They lead fun classes and have built phenomenal communities. I adore them, and am sad to leave them. Truly the best parts of this gym.
Now here are the reasons this place deserves the low rating: -lack of staff causing random amenity closures (not a big deal, but it is annoying) -lack of staff to stock bathrooms (they put water in the soap dispensers??), clean high traffic gym areas (there's hair, dust, dirt, etc. on the floor of the GTX space- they only mop when someone important from corporate is visiting) -a homeless man lives in the basketball court during open hours and the staff doesn't seem to care... and in the evenings when I am there, he paces around the gym barking (yes you read that right), yelling, "fighting" imaginary boxing opponents, etc. I have brought this issue to corporate - but haven't been given a proper response. -it's always super humid in the gym. Like the A/C doesn't work half the time or the circulation is bad or something. Most days I can grit my teeth and work through it, but sometimes, especially in those hot summer days, I can't.
It's sad because this gym used to be amazing and deserving of a LifeTime branding. Now it's just.. not. Don't get me wrong, it is still better than a lot of gyms (spacious, plenty of equipment, great class instructors), but for $100+ a month? Not really. Especially with a homeless man barking at you as he makes his rounds...
Read moreThe gym as a whole is OK in that most things work and it's decently clean, but for what they charge now with the recent price increase, I wouldn't recommend it. Some of my main issues: The hours used to be better, but they cut them due to covid, then never reverted them back. They have too many events for kids/daycare. They'll just stick a table in the middle of the basketball court and have kids do arts and crafts, and this goes on all summer. Do I have to plan my gym visits around daycare events? You have a separate kids room, keep them in there, and stop interfering with other areas of the gym. They don't care about maintenance/quality of the basketball court. The balls they provide are awful, the floor is dirty/slippery, and again, gets damaged by having little kids on there all the time. I've seen paint from their arts and crafts, glitter, etc. Lately, they seem to be OK with letting a homeless person live in the basketball court during open hours. He wears the same clothes every day, smells badly, behaves erratically, stares at other guests, but they don't do anything about it.
Update: that guy is still living in the gym 2 weeks later, and today I picked up a "fresh" towel stained with blood.
Update #2: More than 2 months after my initial review, they are STILL allowing the homeless guy to live in the basketball court. He leaves food trash, dirty shoes/clothing, and other messes all over the place. The other day, he was pacing the court talking to himself and then screaming obscenities, but the staff do nothing.
Update #3: It's been about 6 months since my initial review. The homeless guy is still there. The staff response was that he's "harmless" and pays his dues and doesn't live there. What a joke the management of this gym is - calls to corporate are ignored as well. I do not recommend giving Life Time your money unless you want to hear a homeless guy barking at you your...
Read moreSo I decided to give this gym a try as a backup gym since I go to John Reed and sometimes Iâm tired of driving so much after a long day. I vaguely remember coming here for like 2-3 days when I first moved here from Chicago last year and I absolutely hated it. Today I go after being out of the gym for sometime after a foot injury (not relevant but what ever) and I come here, I was so excited and I asked to check out some machines I like to use at John Reed to see if they have them here. So looked like they had some similar ones. So I went ahead and signed up. As I signed up and went to go use the machines, they were in TERRIBLE shape the ab equipment was rusted and pulling back as I used it, this can probably cause back injury) and the other was so old it barely works. This honestly reconfirmed why I didnât come back to this establishment after trying it out. but I work long hours and at times and I need a gym I can go to. And as I was working out right AFTER I signed up, the last days theyâre closing in 15. Despite the fact that Google and Apple Maps says closing at 11. They closed at 10 on Friday. And sheâs like, âwe go by the appâ well if youâre not a member and youâre looking for a gym that fits your schedule and you JUST signed up, how am I supposed to know that this doesnât work for me if only members have access to the app! And businesses are in charge up setting up google hours and I know this because I manage businesses! I used to be a member of lifetime Skokie in Illinois before I moved here, beautifully well-kept 2 story gym and this is just a sad mess in a sketchy lot. I thought for Addison theyâd make some improvements. Itâs lifetime for Godsakes. I only use high-end gyms and this is a joke. Iâm sorry. Same reason I ran last year will be the same reason I run this time too. Iâm going to equinox in Plano. Itâs the...
