My daughter was in the mood for Tex Mex and I wanted to try a new place in our neighborhood and Mena's came up in my search as a good option. We went for lunch and it wasn't too busy so we were able to be sat right away. The menu had TONS of options, which was great, and we decided to start with their table side guacamole. Perhaps it is made table side during dinner, but during lunch it was not so we weren't able to customize it like I'm used to as the person is making it, but it came out in what seemed to be an authentic molcajete and it was delicious.

I decided to try something I haven't seen served at other Tex Mex restaurants, the Texas burrito without cheese, and my daughter ordered the Chipotle Brisket Tacos. We were disappointed when the tacos arrived and they had cheese on them. As someone who isn't a fan of melted cheese on everything, I am always very careful to read the menu and see if cheese is included so I can ask for the entree without it. Cheese was not noted as being on the brisket tacos so we tried to scrap it off but, when we were unsuccessful, we had to order new ones. I'll admit, a pet peeve of mine is when all the ingredients aren't included on the menu, but kudos to the manager for coming over right away to ensure we got what we needed and they fixed the order promptly and gave my daughter more rice and beans which she thoroughly enjoyed...lol.

This is a nice sized restaurant with various seating locations so I imagine it would have to get pretty busy for there to be a wait. I've read in other reviews that the margaritas are tasty so I'll look forward to trying those during my next visit - most likely with my husband. Overall, I had a great first visit and will...

The good: Nice atmosphere. Has patio and back parking if need be. Selection of seating styles. The bad: Smaller portions I feel. I was able to finish everything on my plate here, while at Nico's I consistently can't finish and need a Togo plate.

Food tastes like it needs a heavy helping of seasoning. Jalapenos aren't spicy, everything was just a little closer to the bland side.

The salsa tasted great but very watery.

Chip bowl is the size of my hand, and I don't have big hands. Not enough chips in a single bowl to finish the 2+ salsa's. Chips are on point tho, great crunch and not stale.

Light hanging two feet above me and my food was broken and coated in dust. Cast a shadow over part of my food, not something I realized would make me uncomfortable but I guess I like to make sure I can see very clearly what I'm eating.

This is the biggest thing. I just didn't feel welcome at all. I said please and thank you as much as possible and only had three interactions but each one was mumbled and halfhearted entirely. I said "I've never been here before, do you have any specials?" And the guy just flipped the menu in front of me and points to a margarita and says "margarita...flavors" but I couldn't see what made it a special, the price wasn't different or anything but I wouldnt know because I wasn't explained anything about what or when their specials are, so I just got a beer to make things easy and straight forward.

I still tipped almost 30% and respect everyone there for their work. I just don't think I will be coming back ever again because there are much better...

New manager Miguel is absolutely horrible and extremely disrespectful! I have been a regular customer here for ten years. Came with friends as usual, one who has been a regular for 20 years. Google says they’re open til 10pm. We finished eating about 9pm, then ordered one more round of drinks. Two minutes after getting our drinks the manger says to us "ladies vamanos". We thought he was joking because the bartender said no worries we can finish our drinks. Then the manager said it again and told us we had to leave. What? Never in my life has a restaurant served us and then said to leave without finishing. He said the owners changed the closing time to 9pm and that he wasn’t a computer and couldn’t control the incorrect information. My friend was so upset and told him that was bad business. He said he didn’t care and told us to leave. Even the bartender apologized to us. We have loved coming here for so many years, spend so much money here every single week, have sent so much business by referring family and friends. After how badly we were treated tonight, by a new manager who cares nothing about customer service, we will no longer return here and in addition will make sure to inform people we know to not give business here. A huge disappointment. Literally in shock over what has happened. We are respectful of people’s time. They could have said nicely that the hours have changed and they’ll be closing soon. But he talked to us like we were dogs needing to be forced out. Can’t even wrap our heads around...

A nice dining experience with healthier dinner choices. We were having a late or early dinner, and thank goodness we got there when we did because they were waiting by 5:30 pm on a Friday for dinner. This is Tex-Mex at it finest. We started with an appetizer of 5 layer dip, which was full of delicious combined flavors or melted cheese, Avacado, sour cream, Pico, and beef. The chips are very crispy and light. You could tell they were freshly made in-house. For the main course I had, Pollo Con Hongos, yummy! This is grilled chicken on sizzling Platter with grilled mushrooms, onions, and poblano pepper. These flavors were amazing and so wonderful together. This came with rice, which I declined, and a salad. The salad was a full size, and the dressing was a light, sweet delight. This was a generous portion, and I took leftover home with me. My friends had beef enchiladas with a side of tortilla soup and pinto beans. It looked yummy as well, and she enjoyed her early dinner, too. This is easy restaurant is easy to find and has plenty of parking. Wait, the staff was all very nice and efficient. There is a small bar area that you can sit at. They did offer alcoholic beverages. I can recommend this Tex-Mex.
