UNDERRATED GEM. A piece of prairie in heart of the city. Wide variety of native plants and pollinators. Spring has great wildflower blooms and November is when the tall grass plumes are in their glory, but truly worth visiting every single month of the year.

Almost totally lacking in orientation / information signage but I hear they are working on that. More plant labels near the parking lot and the prairie entrance would help with the educational mission without interfering with the "untouched" appeal of the nature center out in the prairie itself.

PLEASE stay on the trails and keep your dog leashed. Don't destroy the very thing you came...

Great hidden gem for locals in the Bishop Arts neighborhood. The trail feels a bit short, so it's better for a casual stroll, and not really for serious hikers. (Hint: you won't get a full workout here. Maybe try the Cedar Ridge Preserve). That said, it is a very good escape from the hustle bustle of the city if you live closeby. There is parking (7-8 cars max). And they made a landscaping effort to include native flora and plants in the front. I heard the park land was purchased by a couple of friends who live in this neighborhood. Not sure if it's true but it feels nice and...

A real gem in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas. Twelve Hills is covered with wild flowers. A quiet secluded area with a single circular trail that starts at a small parking lot. Slightly rough with a few small rocks to watch out for. About a third of the trail is covered by trees so you have some shade. There is a delightful "cave" about halfway in formed by thick overhanging branches. We spotted one picnic table on the trail as well. There is no admission fee. Lots of birds, a great place for photography...

Not child friendly! Do not go to this place with kids! The people guarding it are extremely mean and unfriendly, totally authoritarian and hostile, obviously not parents! The trails are not marked. I was stepping half a foot in the grass, a guardian came to me and made me move. He got close to me and said: "move out". Please save yourself a bad moment and go to The Oak Cliff Nature Preserve which is a true preserve. This is just a strip of land in the middle of buildings, run by many antisocial people.

Beautiful, just needs more love. If roping the trails in was an option, I'd do it. With so much poison ivy around, it becomes a bit much, and having so many people around it is rather dangerous as there are no precautions other than a few signs.
