On our way home in a rainstorm from an appointment at UT-SW hospital when we saw the Metro Diner Oak Cliff (OC) across the street at the stoplight. What a treat!
One of the two waitresses saw us out in the pouring rain and held the door open for us! It was a great welcome!
This is a classic diner with the counter, booths, and tables. We found a table that accommodated my wheelchair. Our waitress, Cami (or maybe Tammy) was right there asking about our beverage orders and brought them quickly.
Since it was 10:45 a.m., my husband had the breakfast special, a generous scrambled egg, sausage, and vegetable mix with tortillas and hot coffee. It was excellent! He said the coffee was also excellent.
I had a basic hamburger, with mustard and vegetables, and fries. It was a generous size and homemade, meaning it was not from a mold and frozen. It was also excellent!
The chalkboard said they had pies. I asked Cami if they were homemade. She said she was there at 5 a.m. and made the pies herself. We chose the cherry pie (other choices were apple, pecan, chocolate, and several more). It obviously was homemade and had an excellent crust! No ice cream, though.
The restroom was fully wheelchair handicapped accessible! Cami even held the door open for me and offered to wait and open it when I was finished. Incredible!
Handicapped parking was right at the front door.
It was a great meal. The service was outstanding. The parking and building is fully wheelchair handicapped accessible! If/when we are in the area again we will return! We are more than satisfied customers! A great "greasy-spoon"...
Read moreFirst time to visit. Nice diner with quaint atmosphere. Very laid back with friendly wait staff who happily offered suggestions on the menu. Had an afternoon lunch on a Sunday and it was not crowded at all. Food came out in a timely manner and it was good. For our order, we felt the prices were reasonable. Our table had a burger and blt with the fries. Everything looked and tasted fresh (no weird textured frozen tomatoes or limp lettuce)! No complaints here. See several comments about staff taking frequent breaks but it's a very laid back atmosphere and seems less structured than a corporation. More akin to down home family run like you'd find in small towns. Here, the pace is slower and you don't feel like you're taking up space. We stayed a few hours catching up with friends and not once were we rushed or given a hint to leave. The only other thing to point out is be aware if you use a credit card there is a fee.. Maybe 3%? Ours was 65¢. Maybe due to the small business they need to recapture the processing fee, which is fine. Anyways, no big deal to us but making a mention for those who might like to...
Read moreThis place was Pitt Grill when I was growing up. Since changing to Metro Diner, I had good visits and 1 horrible visit being that my family was completely ignored on a so-so busy day. We left unattended and did not come back for months!!! However, that one bad memory should never hold back the good memories with good waitresses and past awesome cooks who cook with love. Today was a mediocre day with the cook, the waitress was pretty good. My eggs had some browning and not so fluffy like the old cook who once cooked eggs with love. The days of waitress calling you honey, dear, sweetie are out the door and met with half dead looks and the attitude of winding the time down till their shift is done. Sometimes a younger lady will be there but not for long. The hamburgers if you want to call it that, look more like cathead biscuits with small sausage patties. The burgers used to be out of this world. I am still have hopeful about this place but must concede to the fact that it's glory days are way behind them. If anyone thinks this place is out of this world, you might wanna make an appointment with your...
