Doheny state beach camping: $40 a night regular, $60 per night for beach front. It's a nice beach, and they have fire rings at each campsite that you can burn wood or coal in. The horrible parts of this great location are the train tracks that run right next to the campground. During the day, commuter trains go by about every 30 minutes. At night those trains stop running... only to be replaced by extremely long freight trains. I thought my chest was going to explode the rumbling was so intense and loud. I couldn't get more than an hour of sleep in a row because this beach is so loud. The waves are some of the loudest crashers I've ever heard, probably because along the length of the beach they crest and crash in one giant wave. So, either wear really good ear plugs or find another coastal beach camp site...
Read moreWhat an amazing place if you are lucky enough to get a campsite here. There are very few campsites actually on the beach. The sites are generally small as the try to cram a lot of of them into this location. 88 by far is the worst one right next to the restroom with little privacy as people walk by I was fortunate to get there for a night. The restrooms are old but functioning you need to get tokens for showers and they have their own tokens. They have a cafe. When there are events they can be a long line to get in. Dana Point in general is a beautiful place with the harbor with visiting lots of nice restaurants and friendly people. Creekside dog park is close by. Coffee shop restaurants, and other facilities are a few minutes away...
Read moreThis place at first makes you so happy to be there. But then you realize the problems that make it miserable. First let me say, the restrooms are clean. The main problem is that is is not the peaceful setting you think it is. My neighbor ran his extremely loud generator from 10 am until 8:15 pm and I had to tell him is was past the 8pm limit to have his generator on. So many people running their generator all afternoon up to the 8 pm shut off time. WHY? You are camping and your batties should be good for several days. Sites are also really tight and not easy to get into. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Unless you are o e of the people that runs your generator all the...
