Another theatre gem in the "Gem City"!
We happened upon an advertisement for the Dayton Theatre Guild in a Downtown Dayton events website/email--a wonderful find!
Attended a play this weekend--easy location (Wayne Avenue, near myriad, multiple places to eat, drink, shop--close to Ghost Light Coffee, Branch & Bone, Belle of Dayton Distillery, right close to the Oregon District) with good-sized parking lot behind the building. Also, plenty of street parking nearby as well.
Functional, but not fancy entryway, leads back to the stage area--intimate, but not cramped. The 121-seat theatre has seating on 3 sides of the stage area, similar to CATCO in Columbus. However, the seats are quite comfortable, and every seat has a spectacular view of the performances at hand.
Funny, poignant, thought-provoking works are on display here, with 1-5 actors/actresses presenting memorable performances for novice theatre-goer and established patrons of the arts.
Tickets can be purchased online or in-person, and seating is first come, first serve (getting there a bit early ensures one can get the best seat they prefer; however as mentioned above ALL the seats are superb).
Looking forward to the next performance, and we're going to purchase season tickets IOT attend next year's performances at this 75-year old, hometown theatre company. Truly a gem in...
Read moreWe have been looking at supporting Dayton's local businesses and stuff to do to fight the dreary winter blues. We found an upcoming play of the 24th, while looking at the location we also found a dog grooming place. Unsure of the location and parking since near the Oregon can get a bit confusing, plus it was early in the morning with pouring freezing rain,we passed the location but thought we could park round back and there'd be an entrance. We were wrong obviously and tried to sprint around the building for drop off. As we were making our way a gentleman pulled up, rolled down his window to yell at us, "This is a TOW ZONE! YOU CANT PARK HERE. THIS ISNT THERE PARKING LOT." I quickly apologized, trying to explain it was our first time and instead of helping us he continued to yell about being towed and we have two minutes, mind you we are in the pouring rain and he is in his car. So much for local hospitality, there was no one else in the parking lot and we were gone...

Dayton Theatre Guild is a long-standing organization going back over 50 years. The space they occupy is built into a "thrust" type stage, that is, the audience is on three sides of the action.
Their shows are varied, but almost always dramatic works, and not musicals, although one or two may pop up.
Ticket prices are average for the area, but there is one gotcha: Saturday night performances are not always at the same time! The first Saturday is at 8PM, and subsequent Saturdays are at 5PM. Be aware of this when you purchase a ticket; I have arrived for an 8PM show to find a dark and locked up theatre.
Shows run on Friday, Saturday, and...
