RC Boca is the only RC hobby shop around this area. It's a great place to go buy RC cars and trucks, and they have a pretty good selection of spare or replacement parts for some brands. The staff is VERY knowledgeable, patient and willing to help.
The reason for this poor review is with Jay (I believe he's the owner) himself and not any of the employees. Jay knows me pretty well, he knows what RC car I own (he sold it to me) and he knows my driving habits from having plenty of conversations. I came into the store to pick up some new tires after having shredded my old ones. Jay sold me a set of tires that looked like what I needed for street use. After only a very short time, maybe 10 minutes, the tires I bought were worn down and had a tear in one of them.
I asked Jay if there was anything he could do for me. He recommended that I reach out to the manufacturer and he even gave me the receipt for the car that these tires originally came off of. The problem is that the original receipt was dated 5 months previous, so of course the manufacturer wouldn't warranty anything let alone a wearable item like tires. I don't blame them for their assessment, someone sends in a picture of worn out ripped tires that are 5 months old and asks for warranty...Right.
I went back to Jay and told him the manufacturer wouldn't do anything, and he offered me a $25 credit toward new tires. The problem with this is that the tires were sold to me as new by someone who knows exactly what car I have and how I drive it. I came to find out that the tires are certainly not new.
So, I spent $65 on used tires (sold to me as new) that are defective (the rubber at the site of the tear is noticeably thinner than anywhere else), use them for about 10 minutes, and I can only get a $25 credit toward new tires. In the end I'm out $40.
The $40 isn't that big of a deal for me and I do NOT take posting a negative review of a local business lightly, but I feel that other purchasers need to know of the potential dishonesty of the owner. While personally I won't ever come back, on principle, you should be able to come in this store and purchase cars and parts with confidence, just be sure...
Read moreI wanted to like it, but when i came in I had to greet the staff in the back in order to get a hello. I was standing right in front of them. I wanted to buy a crawler today and only a crawler but was told to get a monster truck and shown a rc car. Not what i was looking for, I have researched crawlers and know what I’m am looking for, but wanted to get more information other than we are sold out. Sorry but when a potential new walk in customer feels like staff is too busy I will leave a 1 star. That’s is why.
In response to your reply, reviews are provided so the customer can express his/her thoughts on the store. I am very aware of COVID restrictions just to let you know that is why I came to your business and didn't buy from the internet. Not bashing, just stating the facts. As a small business owner, you should cater to your in store customers. But apparently you can’t accept constructive criticism as per your threat in number #4. I’m sorry you feel offended by someone’s review but as stated earlier just stating the facts just as you did. Being easily to please is easy but as I can see from your reply it seems you're the one that hard to please. Maybe find use this review to better serve your next walk in customer. Anyhow, if you'd like to know, I traveled to Goat hobbies in Weston where Leo explained the different types crawlers and helped me make a great decision. As you can tell, from my one star reviews, fortunately the Grill doctor responded and made things right instead of being upset they received a bad review. Thanks for the reminder to update the review! Maybe as a brick and mortar shop, you should follow up with a customer and not get...
Read moreAll the guys there were super helpful from the moment we walked in, to the moment we walked out (probably about an hour later). All of the guys and gals were sure to ask us if we were being taken care of, even as they were walking to and from helping other customers.
There is a certain culture about this shop. You know a shop is good when the people working there are passionate about what the business offers. You know a shop is great when there are people coming by on a Saturday just to hang out with the staff there.
Lots of options in the store. Jay was awesome. He helped answer my questions, and made sure we got taken care of amongst the 15+ customers constantly around us. It was busy. Jay even took the time to point my wife and I (currently visiting Florida for the first time) in the right direction for local RC spots, and good sights/restaurants in the area. (He’s basically a trip advisor).
When you can walk into a shop from out of town, as a stranger, and one hour later feel as though you could walk in the next day feeling like a friend, you know you’ve got a great shop.
Tons of options, great service, wonderful staff. Would give more than 5 stars if I could. Give this shop...
